TV Resolution mapping to HD configuration

Keep in mind that I'm VERY basic with audio/visual stuff could you explain to me how screen resolution maps to the HD configuration of a TV.

I thought I had this clear in my head, but clearly not.

    I'm configuring a TV with a PC.

The TV is a Panasonic TX-32LXD700 which is HD 1080 or "true HD" what ever you want to call it this week.

The was struggling to force the display to go higher than 1366 x 768 as I thought it needed to go to go 1080p standard.

however reading the panasonic website, this is the maximum resolution the TV supports ?

Could someone explain how the resolution maps to the HD standard of the TV.

    thanks.

I hate to tell you but its not true HD. sure it can cope with 1080 signals but its not TRUE 1920by1080 and 1366x768 is the highest res it can go....

I've not heard of any TV at the moment that is 1920by 1080 at 37", 40" is the smallest i've seen do 1920by1080

tbh mate i ahev the sony kdl32d3000 and tis tha same. you wont notice any difference between 720p and 1080p anyway unless you have a massive screen. so i wouldnt worry about it. it will do 1080i though if that helps.

Yep, that screen is 720p/1080i capable. Meaning that 720p is the best picture you'll get.

A 1080p screen will cost ALOT more than the tv you've got and at 32" most people will tell you that the difference wouldn't be noticeable between 720p and 1080p at that screen size.

    TBH you'll have a hard time finding a 32" 1080p screen. I know Sharp have a limited 32" 1080p range.

interesting feedback - thank you. I'm still reasonable new with the AV area now that HD is out. the picture is stunning and its only a games/HTPC TV for the games room so I'll probably live with it fine.

Thanks for the input, helps me understand a few things.
