So which format would you like to win?

I'm not asking which will "win". I want to know which you want to win.

If you don't want either to win, or don't care, then don't vote. And for those of you that think both should co-exist: the studios, by siding with particular formats, are essentially making sure that won't happen.

Fanboi commentry from both sites welcome, because as I mention recently, whichever side you're a fanboy of... you're wrong.

I'll post my thoughts a little later, although people familiar with me will likely know which one I'd want to win and why.

    Voted HD-DVD

But I do really like BluRay for data storage, it has a higher potential maximum capacity, 10 layers and about 200GB if memory serves.

    Where's the "Cheese" option?

I'd have cheese over either of those two options any day. Not so good for storing data, but tastes nice.

I want an either as long as one does soon option. I don't really mind, all I want to do is buy one with the knowledge that it will not become obsolete a month later.

Re: So which format would you like to win?

I think there needs to be a "Don't care" option.

Personaly I won't be buying a high def media player unless it is dual format, or they are so cheap that I can get one of each, or untill the format war is won.

Re: So which format would you like to win?

Looks like I'll be abstaining. I don't think the "war" will be decided by the consumer, it'll be down to the companies/groups which have a vested (read: financial) interest to decide which one will be killed off.

BR appears the better format in terms of storage (as Funkstar mentioned) but HD media is cheaper to produce, at least that's how I understand it. I've not seen video from either yet so I can't really comment on which is best in that regard.

Just kill one off quickly please, either one, I don't care which.
My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

0iD: Plus weeing in it every now & again does it good
scaryjim: 10" is just a little large to hold comfortably in one hand, which makes it a lot harder to tap, swipe and generally interact with.

Re: So which format would you like to win?

i'd prever HD-DVD - the DRM's weaker, the regions aren't an issue, and there's even basic interactive functionality like PiP which blu-ray barely supports

but i haven't put my money where my mouth is. as a ps3 owner, i bought some blu-ray movies.

Re: So which format would you like to win?

Blu ray, only because I intend to buy a ps3 in the next couple of weeks, and I don’t want to find out in a years time that blu ray is dead!

Besides having more studio support blu ray has really been helped by the ps3. After all besides being a games console, it is also a blu ray player which means (correct me if I am wrong) the blu ray format as already sold more players then hd dvd have, even though many of them are ps3. I might be wrong but ps3 could play a big factor in who wins.

However I want someone to win quickly even if its not blu ray, I think I can safely say consumers are beginning to get tired of this war.

Geeks are but probably not the mass market. The average consumer doesn't know what HD DVD is and they certainly don't have a clue about blu ray.

I would have to agree with you to some extent, but I think the average consumer is slowly beginning to find out. Its not hard to miss anymore, only today I was at empire direct and currys and there were quite few displays for blu ray and hd dvd, more than I have seen before.

There was also two men complaining about the fact that there are two hd formats and not one, but then again they could have been geeks like us.
