    Software to play mp3's?

    Hi all,

I've got 5.1 surround sound on my PC, but Winamp only uses 2 speakers . So I'm looking for a piece of software that will happily run in the background of XP and play a nice long list of mp3's through all 5 speakers

I know iTunes does it, but I hate it after it renamed all my songs and put them in individual folders - created 310 uneccessary folders!! :@

So what other programs are out there?

    Thanks,
    Nick

First make sure windows knows your useing 5.1 Surround Speakers, by going into control pannel then opening up "sound an audio devices" there should be somthing in there allowing you to set the speakers to 5.1 Surround. Im going by what i know its like in XP. Also if your speakers have a decoder you might need to say your useing 5.1 (like on mine theres a button which allowes you to use normal stereo speakers or surround). Finnaly if the software your soundcard came with has this function, enable 5.1 surround speakers on there to. My Audigy sound card software has a sepearte icon in control pannel which enables me to fiddle round with the speaker settings a little. Praps yours has a similar thing.

Yeah - Using WinAmp you can get it out of all speakers, but it doesn't exacly expand it.

To get proper expansion like ProLogic, I use PowerDVD, this allows me to enable ProLogic2 so I get 'real' surround, although music sounds stupid out of anymore than 2 speakers ... the best hifi is the one you can't hear the difference between that and when it was played, the real one won't surround you, you'll hear it from the front

Winamp 5 and CMSS from my exitigy provide 5.1

It depends on your codec though - ive not worked out exactly what it is yet, but i installed something pre-format last time that only gave me 2 speakers in winamp. But this time ive only installed the bare essentials, no codec packs and ive got 5.1 perminantly.
I dont like sig pics so i turn off sigs Which doesnt help when i dont know what ive written here! DOH!

Try both of these plug-in's for winamp 5, either one or both of them will give you 5 channel sound

Just need to click something in winamp 5, very simple.
Go to Plugins -> Output -> Directsound output configure and check allow hardware acceleration.
