wow, that Sigma does produce some sharp pictures! I should have a look at that! I'm Canon D40 man and was looking at the Canon macros.

To pick up from watercooled: The D80 has a silent mode for macro, i.e. keep the mirror lifted, so the cam doesn't make much noise?

yes mate it does but i never use it for macro work, just keep the flash on even in daylight and make sure the exposure is fast

Wow, those are some really, really impressive photos. It almost makes me want to go out and buy a super expensive camera... but I'm sure it'd end up in a cupboard somewhere within a month... gathering dust

    do what?!

mirror lock-up is so the camera doesn't shake during long exposures.. not for silent shooting!

once the mirror is in the up position it blocks the viewfinder...

    and thats 40D!

you don't really need a Macro Lens to produce Macro Photographs..

Yeah, I meant to just write "delaying mirror/shutter return" instead of "lock-up". SORRY, SO SORRY!!!

And yes, it's 40D and I was also wondering whether the 80D has such a feature. You seem to be in the know, so does it?
