    Re: Freesat vs Freeview

If you fancy an interesting project look at MythTV as a combined TV distribution system..

It can combine Freeview, Freesat and other Satellite systems all into one delivery platform as well as including all your videos and music. You can watch via HTPC on your TV or even via a web browser using mythweb.

I first installed it about 4 years ago now and me and the family could never go back.

As it's Linux based it's all free and if you're not a Linux person it's a great way to learn.

I tried this, couldn't get my head round it, so now have a MediaPortal setup instead, very similar in a lot of ways, just Windows based. From what others have said, MediaPortal generally looks better, the skins are a lot slicker.

Try .22 using a livecd if you want to try it....

As to the skins being slicker I'd have to strongly disagree

It's MythWeb that makes the big difference though.....

Allows you to drive the whole system pretty much through a web browser, so it's a piece of cake to do stuff even remotely.

Humax HD Freesat bog standard box

No recorder... BUT it has an ethernet port to get iPlayer on

Make sure it has a DVB-s2 receiver not a DVB-s so it's more futureproof
