no
you're better off studying the net for great photographs than spending dolla on a book about how to shoot great photographs..

Not if you dont have the net i will be without the net for a whole month when i go philippines so it will be nice to read a book about photography and this book seems to be the ideal book to read.
It's a bit basic. It doesn't really teach you anything that you won't eventually figure out by yourself - it does so fairly well but in a very generic 'and this is how you take a sunset and this is how you take a portrait' way. I'd rather spend that kind of money on a single lesson.
This is the only guide-book that I've found useful:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Light-Scienc...4445247&sr=1-1
and that's mostly because some of the exercises within are damn hard - when you've finished that one you'll know how to use light very well. Otherwise I'd get a photobook from a photographer that I liked.
whatever subject you enjoy photographing the most, buy a book on that instead for inspiration

I bought it towards the end of last year and found it really interesting and useful. But I suppose it all depends how clued up you are already are on getting the right exposure. He goes into details of how to correctly expose for grass, sky, snow etc. The good thing is, that for every photo he takes he tells you what lens, aperture and shutter speed he used. He covers aperture and shutter speed alone in quite good detail.
Personally, its one of the best photography books I've bought. I had one of those moments where the penny dropped of linking aperture, shutter speed and ISO together - he explains it all really well and then provides lots of examples. I'd highly recommend it.
