    Help needed on e-books

I am currently doing a course at a university in London. i have a book that i'm reading at the moment and i wonder:

    1. where & how can i find an e-book version of the book i'm reading?

    2. if i managed to download a PDF version of the file on my PC how can i transfer that on my smartphone? (so i can read it anywhere i like)

n.b. i am planning on buying a mid-end Android phone like the HTC Desire S or the Incerdible S.

    Thank you.

    Re: Help needed on e-books

Viewing on an Android handset is easy. you can either install Adobe reader, or you could view it via Google Docs as well (I'd go for docs personally) There are also other readers available in the Android Market.

As for getting an electronic version, have you checked with the publisher? I assume it isn't in the Kindle store? There is a Kindle Android app as well, so if it was you could have it on your Kindle as well as your phone.

The answer to that will depend partly on what book it is.

For instance, many "classics" are available from various free sources, like Project Gutenberg. Even Amazon does a variety of free e-books, and there are some other similar sources.

But the big issue is copyright. If it's a recently published book, i.e. not old enough for copyright to have expired, then unless the rights holder has explicitly made a version available under some form of rights-free deal, it's protected. And not many recent books are made freely available that way.

So, assuming it's still copyright-protected, you can either get a legit version and the publisher can point you in the right direction if the likes of Amazon don't have it, or don't have it in a form you can read, or you'll have to hunt down an illicit version, which may or may not exist.

Just for the sake of clarity, there is to be no discussion, veiled or otherwise, of how to acquire the illegal versions on here. I'm not suggesting you were asking for that, Gino, but before some kind soul decides to 'help' with that kind of info, not on HEXUS, please. I'm sure regulars know better than to go there, but just in case anyone doesn't, that's our stance. I'm also sure if that's what you want, it's not beyond you to work out how to get it without a discussion here.

So by all means name the book(s) if you wish, but all answers are to respect copyright law, even when people don't necessarily like it or agree with it please.

well you can easily download all books paid or not for free at www.************.com

    (jokes haha!)

Check amazon, see if its listed.... depending on the book really, for some of my uni books there are ebook versions but for the more expensive books i.e 1k page text books they generally arent .

    Re: Help needed on e-books

I've been looking for text books too and it's rather hit and miss.

Edit: Please see Saracen's post above.
