I've been playing for just under 10 years now, self taught too :> Been in a couple of bands, played a few gigs. Last band I was in was supposed to play a gig at a Motorcycle festival of some sort, but I errr.. left. Didn't like the direction they wanted to go in, and didn't really fancy playing the type of music they wanted to play in front of a large number of Hells Angels...

I would say the bass does indeed count. Many people know are choosing to play the bass over the guitar, and not just because they could get get on with the guitar, which is how it used to be.

i was a bass player lol a frustrated lead guitarist
i broke my little finger and the finger next to it in a sledging derby
when i was 15 and swopped to bass cos i couldnt use my fingers properly to pull chords so i became the bassist lol they are rarer and good bass players are hard to find i might also add that i also played drums in bands as well all this playing in bands has left me DEAF so wear ear plugs and stay away from ride cymbols

Hehe!! Thanks!! If the bass counts, I'll take some pics...

Here's some when I was still a student. (at the bottom of the page) The bass I was using at the time was a Gibson Epiphone electric bass, hooked up to a Marshall Pre-Amp and Power Amp setup...

More on my current basses later...

As promised, took some time to take a couple of pics of my basses using my webcam (hence the image quality)...

The electric is a Fender American Jazz Bass (Squire Series), Japanese made, which I bought it back in 1995.
The acoustic is a Tanglewood Acoustic Bass with active electronics (Sundance TW92-TF), Korean made, which I got as a present from the Ruler_of_spike back in 2001.

As bass counts, I'll join in this thread

Been playing for about a year and a half now, and love it! Got a Yamaha RBX270, which has served me very well... wouldn't mind getting a 5-string, though.

As for tabs, I use a program called Power Tab and get tabs from http://www.powertabs.net/

    Other good tab sites are:

    http://www.mxtabs.net/
    http://www.taborama.com/
http://www.basstabarchive.com/index.html (hasn't been updated for ages, though )

I bought one of those fender squire strat 'kits' recsently for around £140, and it has been good for learning the electric, which I have been doing. I find that practicing tabs from mxtabs.com and a few others posted above helps you learn, aswell as following the normal learning guides
