Telewests Digital TV Cable

Im in the process of having a move around in my room, but the cable that goes from the little box on the wall outside, to the TV box isnt long enough for me to put the TV and box where i want them. So, what kind of cable is it, and can i buy an extension or do i need to get telewest out to extend it?

Just standard coaxial (sp?) cable

I was just about to say, it has threads on the end, and a standard co-axial doesnt fit. Does the high quality shielded co-axial have threads at each end?

Good point it has a special screw connector. Hmmm.... Might have to get one from Telewest

If its like the sky cable then those thread connectors can just be unscrewed off the cable itself. I rewired our sky box to another outlet this way using the high quality coax and it works fine. The connectors just kind of form a thread around the plastic? on the cable.

thats what i would do - just take the current screw things of and put the on your new wire.

'High quality coaxial' is just the type of wire used, btw. You can just buy a length as long as you need and wire it in using your old connectors. If you want to just extend the lead that comes through your wall, then take off the screw connector, put a standard plug connector on, put an opposite connector on one end of your new wire and fit the old screw plug to the other end. Voila, extension cable in 5 minutes.

The plugs are pretty self explanatory to install if you look at them. You just need to make sure that the central solid wire of the coax cable touches the centre bit, and that the outer woven shield wires make contact with the outer bit of the plug.

The screw connectors used are called "F" connectors, b&q do the connectors to make your own cable and adapters to convert a normail coax cable to be used with the F plugs, but you'd be better off just making a cable.

I think the Telewest F connectors are actually crimped on, so I don't think you will be able to get them off.

I also think that you will be able to use satellite cable.
