    Awesome.... Truely Awesome

    Morning

Today is the day after.... The day after the apocalypse....the day after my ears bled....

the day after I went to see The prodigy live @ Manchester apollo.

Awesome is probably the cleanest word to describe last nights gig at Manchester. The warm-up act was one of the best DJ's I've seen ( Sorry I didn't catch his name as I was having a few cheeky beers ) and he was mixing records with the same ease Deckard probably mixes dough for his bread.

After an hour of some intense dance, r&b, house, hip-hop, trip-hop fusion the wait for the main act was over...... the lights dimmed, the speakers buzzed, Was this the end of my hearing and hello hearing aids at 60 years old... HELL YEAH. You could cut the anticipation with a knife. With a frenzy of cheering the prodigy were on the stage and ready to blow my mind away.

THAT THEY SURE AS HELL DID FOLKS !!!!!!!!

Straight in, no messing - down to the nitty gritty, they played with style, finesse, character and they sounded exactly like they do on the ALBUM (well apart from the impromtu lyrics and the resounding bass that filled my body with every drum beat)

With aplomb they went through the set with more energy flowing from them than the national grid at half-time when everyone switches their kettles on.

From Firestarter to SMBU, from Spitfire to Girls this fusion of music was truely awesome. Not a single hair on my head was still lay down after the first 30 mins.

    Playlist ...
    Wake Up Call
    Beats
    Their Law
    Warning
    Spitfire
    Breathe
    New Track (Amsterdam)
    Girls / More Girls
    Firestarter Intro
    Firestarter new remix
    Hotride new remix
    Back to School
    The Way It Is
    Mindfields
    encore:
    Poison
Release Yo'Delf fill ( prodigy mix)
    SMBU

The atmosphere was electric. Everyone was dancing. From the 16 year old "n00bs" to the 60 year old "hip-replacement" group - They all moved and wriggled with the beat. Not a dry armpit was in the place after the first 10 minutes. I even at one point felt so hot it felt like a sauna.

Vocally - They did NOT put a foot wrong all night They flew through the lyrics like a hot knife through butter and rolled off their tongues like cheese rolling down a hill in Somerset.

I was expecting this to be a "pretty average" concert as people who seen them the night before said they were "okay", well folks.... The last night in Manchester for them was a blinder ( not only the music - the lights... I'm still seeing green dots in a V formation that flashed like mussle fire when spitfire was playing)

Prodigy... average, okay - pfffft they are awe-inspiring and FANTASTIC. I left the apollo with a grin so wide I struggled to get through the double-doors and even now I still get a residual feel of the bass occasionally.

Yeap - the DJ set was electrifying... He mixed everything from Britney Spears to Bangra and still set the place alight. I NEED his name. I'm gonna ring them later @ The apollo and find who he is so I can get some of his work as well

I only have 1 wish and that is, can i go to their next show? My wife is lucky enough to have seen them live twice, jammy cow. I love the Prodigy and have all their albums, not sure on my favourite though.

I like the original one personally (The Prodigy Experience). Lots of classic beats and early rave sounds. <Sighs with nostalgia>

It doesn't matter if you don't like the new album. I didn't for 1 ... well theres a few songs I liked such as " you'll be under my wheels" and "spitfire". These are worthy of seeing. Shame Vatican DC ( support band ) were pants and sounded like a teenage angst rock group with heavy "chaa chaa chaa" and roaring in EVERY song.

Must go - checking to see where their next gig nearest to manchester is and if theres any more tickets Must see them again lol

I thought that they'd split up and that 'The Prodigy' was now just Liam Howlett (like on the new album). Who was doing the live show? I've seen them twice, once with Placebo as the warmup, but that was back in the days with Maxix as the frontman, Keith playing 2nd fiddle and Leeroy dancing about... oh, and yeh there was also Liam actually 'playing' the music at the back

I just had a google and came up with this:

    http://212.67.202.86/~theprod/bb/viewtopic.php?t=2086

Sounds like they don't keep in touch very much, but get brought in now and again. I'd love to see them live again but not sure it'd be the same. Boy do I feel old....
