    Auditioning headphones

Are there any not-too-hard-to-find stores where I can audition mid-high end Sennheiser/Grados?

I am starting to get into the headphone game, but headphones do not come cheap, and it is starting to be clear that one manufacturer may not necessarily be "better" than another, but may sound "different" enough for one to prefer one to another. So it would be nice if I could try out before plunging hundreds of pound into a pair of headphone.

Sevenoaks sound a vision have a fewplaces dotted around the country, Richer sounds are worth a look but you would need to check they had what you wanted in stock, you would also be best avoiding their stores at the weekend and evenings if you want a demo.

just look in yellow pages for hifi shops. ring em up in advance, and tell them what you want to try out. ask them if they have a cd player similar or identical to the one you own. if they do then nip down with a couple of your fav cds and have a listen..

there are a lot of shops that do that sorta thing - sevenoaks is reasonable, but richersounds won't have anything in your range.

I live in Aberdeen.. far up north.

I guess I'll take a look around. I wonder if the likes of Dixon have the type of things I am looking for.

In a word, no, the best headphones ive ever seen in dixons were a pair of px100s.
id say give sevenoaks aberdeen a bell and see what you can sort out, they'll prob be ok with you taking your own source, assuming of course youre using a cd player not some kind of studio set up. If youre really nice they might let you audition stuff at your house, i know my dad did that before he got his linn gear, bit of a ball ache getting the big kef reference series to leeds.

Thanks. They look like one of the better bet.
