Jut sent off my one. Not completely happy with it, was hoping to get something a bit more original, but didn't have as much time as I had hoped this weekend. There is always something that comes up...

my major issue this week was the crap weather, but i have submitted the photo that i'm happiest with. It's hardly original, but it's still a damn good photo, i've had loads of compliments about it already! (mainly from family members and people i've paid )

Surely, it's better to leave in the stuff that adds to the picture!

    Sorry - couldn't resist that.

Oh, and I don't see any mention of prizes - does it make sense for me to scrounge some up - if not for this compo, then for the next one?

And, I'm happy to do that, and more than confident I'll be able to get in some software as prizes.

Then I absolutely will arrange something for the next compo - as long as you can keep me in the loop on what you're planning and when.

I'm now thinking aloud - so nothing below is cast in stone - but these are the things I'm thinking and none is un-doable, in my view.

First, depending on how successful the next compo and subsequent compos turn out to be, will depend on how big and wonderful the prizes can grow to be in future.

For the next one, though, I'll try to get multiple prizes of software - though, initially, these probably wouldn't be something REALLY fancy such as copies of the full Photoshop.

However, having multiple prizes rather than one grand prizes would, I'd like to think, encourage more entrants - and, of course, the person who's pic is voted No.1 still gets the top-dog accolade (and maybe some likkle extra or extras - I'll have a word with David and see if something like a HEXUS T-shirt might be possible and/or other goodies).

Also, although I appreciate the ethos of not massively editing pics, I think it might be a positive thing to include sometime down the line a compo where people have to find an existing shot and rescue it - in the sort of way I described doing with that New York skyline shot in my news story about Photoshop Elements 4.0

If we do do something like that then we may well find that it's a bit easier to get really good prize sponsorship especially if, say, we stipulate what software has to be used.

Lots of companies offer trial downloads of their programs and for those people without broadband, we could maybe organise a CD chain where we send out, say, five trial CDs and people just mail those one.

But, like I said, all this is just me thinking aloud - the only thing I'll guarantee is that I'll be able to get multiple prizes of software for the next competition.

cheers Bob, yes I agree on the prizes, if they can be sorted out then a 1st, 2nd, 3rd type arrangement would be favourable.
and on the editing front again I agree, one round I had planned to set in the future is one solely based on massive editing. so although the photo taken might not be that inspiring it will be up to the 'editee' to create a master piece.
at this early stage though I appreciate not everyone has editing software - or knows how to use it fully if they do - so decided to concentrate on photographic skill but certainly in later compo's once everyone has seen a few go by smoothly then I can see an editing one going rather well
    great idea!

p.s. there's a list of editing software in my sticky
