I wasn't meaning that they should be tweaked for the purposes of this 'contest', but that for the image to be a stronger one, there's something missing, slightly somewhere.

I still like image 7, the composition is good, the subject matter is appropriate, it again shows decay of 'obsolete' industrial practice, but to me, the image is almost 'washed out' with the bright light coming over the rooftop, and it feels to me just ever so slightly out of focus, almost like it's been done on auto focus and it's not hitting the right object to give a sharp focus (it's more on a par with a watercolour painting is how it feels to me I guess).

If you then look at image 4, black and white photos are at their best when there's a good strong white (the reflection of sunlight off the water) and a good strong black (within the crack of the pipe), without that they again can have a tendancy to look washed out. The main focus of the composition is in sharp focus, allowing a strong image and presentation of decay of industrial equipment.

Both images are good images, with composition and framing of the object being photographed, it's just to me, that image 4 has the edge over image 7. Irrespective of that anal analysis from me , all the entries are good and show a variety of approaches to what is a good subject matter.

    Well done all the entrants

no.1 is good from a technical point of view it just says nothing in my opinion about industry. 4 is ok but that slight crookedness just screws with my brain

I will say that some of the photos are in my opinion being ruined by being displayed at such a small size , especially no.2 - points shiato -> http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.php?t=55411

Mmm... 2 did it for me, I just like clouds and cranes... Although I wish that handrail wasn't in the shot

I like the way the cranes are silhouetted against the clouds I am a fan of visually beautiful shots, hence why I like the film, "Phantom of the Opera"...

can't complain about the size - there's a limit of 800x600 to keep the 56k'ers happy and for the resst of us it would still take the perverbial if we had to wait for each 6 megapixel image to download...no, 800x600 is what it stays at. if you look around at...ahem...other forums...you'll notice that 800x600 or even 640x480 are the limits, and there's no mention of 56k'ers just that they'd like images all within one screen, not spilling over the edges! deal with it.

there's also a generous 200k limit here meaning we dont have to compress the imges so much, many sites give more like 150k as a limit.

    right, i reckon thats it.

with shiato away for a couple of days and therefore no one to close the poll properly i think its probably enough. last weeks ended at 9pm so.........thats's all folks.

shiato left us some instructions but unfortunately we're at a loss as to who the photos belong to for sure..... but these are the best guesses:

    1.not working for me?
    2.elmo
    3.matt1ed
    4.noah
    5.5lab
6.funkstar? (its on a eos 350d and he's just bought one)
    7.[MA]Dak[GSV]
8.same as above, one of these must be mrs dak
    9.shiato

so, well done to all. great response again and some wonderful shots there. with that said lets get thinking about next week eh!

thoughts so far are pointing towards an 'autumn' theme before it's too late and we loose all the leaves all suggestions welcome...

    discuss away
