    Noob Photoshop Question.... ;-)

    Hey Guys,
Not sure if this is the right forum to post in, but I guess if anyone knew the answer it'd be you creative lot . Anyway, when I've made a fairly basic image etc in Photoshop CS2, I sometimes only get the option to save the file in about 5 or 6 formats (such as PNG, TIFF, PSD), and not BMP and JPEG - the ones I need! .

I presume this is due to the interlacing/layers used in some of my images. My question is: How the hell do I save these images in BMP/JPEG? I don't want to retain the images layered properties btw.

Oh, and finally, until now, I've been saving in PNG, which I then open in Paint and resave as BMP . However, a recent image I made seems to produce an incompatible (with Paint at least) file.

Merge layers in the layer menu? You can then save as you want.

You can flatten the image to one layer? Then that should be able to save to JPEG.

you've come to the right place, and don't ever be afraid of asking questions. its how we get to know what we know in life...!

finding it hard to save as png, tiff, jpeg...?
whats the original file type? just psd?
sounds like you may be editting in a differnt colour space. go image>mode> select RGB and see if that helps
there shouldn't be any need to flatten before saving to jpeg as PS does that automatically

Thanks for the advice so far guys. I have tried merging the layers, and also as Shiato suggested, I have made sure RGB is selected. Unfortunately, this problem still exists, and I am only given the following formats to save in:

    PSD
    Cineon
    Large Document Format
    Photoshop PDF
    Photoshop Raw
    PNG
    TIFF

    Any suggestions guys?

Ok Guys, just saved it as a jpeg using the "save for web" function. Still, it'd be interesting to know whether I can save as a jpeg using the standard 'save as' function.

Try changing it to 8bit instead of 16 or 32.

I get this all the time...

Dunno the "proper" way of doing it. I just either "save for web" or save as a PNG then convert with Irfanview...

I tend to keep my original raw file in one folder, then fiddle using PS saving as a psd, then save for net jpg that I want to put online or send to people
