SCART Cable Question

Hello,

I have a TV that supports RGB, which as i understand it is the best quality picture from a SCART cable.

I have Digital Ntl box, DVD Player and Xbox (with advanced AV)

I need to get a SCART box that allows me to switch between the above 3 and also supports RGB.

Seen one is Argos for £9.99 HERE

Does that seem good ?

I need some new SCART cables aswell. Do SCART cables with Gold plated connectors really make a difference ????

Seen theses ones Hitachi 1.5m Premium Scart Lead, they are half price £7.99

Is it really worth going for gold SCART leads, or should i just get some cheap ones ?

Tbh I personally think that the gold makes no difference at all, it is just purely for aesthetic reasons. Gold is actually a poor conductor of electricity, but it doesnt oxidise due to its unreactive nature so it is used on connectors.

That Scart switcher you have chosen would be perfectly good. You may want to get one that automatically switches to the last used signal though. http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produc...er/5344297.htm

The autoswitching boxes can cause problems between some bits of kit, better off getting a manual switch one.

Actually AFAIK it's the third best of all the metals, it just isn't as good as silver or copper. That said, I don't think gold plating scarts is necessary, and in general I myself am a scart sceptic. I have never been able to tell any difference between scart leads (and that's testing on my own 29" Sony Trinitron and my in-laws 42" plasma). So Ben, if I were you, and assuming you don't need any scarts longer than 1m, I'd either grab them from a pound shop or if you like pay £6 to get one of the locking scarts from homebase recommended by Bob in this thread.

I'd avoid the Pound shop ones Rave. I've had two that were dire, all fuzzy and with wobbly pins. Just badly made.

£10 is my top spend on a scart recently tho.
