My A2 Level exam!! (UPDATE: Day 2) Take a peek

Ok since the Art exam is so relaxed, spead over 3 days (12 hours in total) and we are allowed to see all of our mates ones (as well as talk silently and listen to our iPods) I thought I might aswell take a snappy of the picture for you guys to see and evaluate

Since this is the first day, I'm open for all sorts of comments... I have about 8 hours left for it all.

Before I show it, thanks to hexus member Ant for showing off his lovely Gumball 3000 pictures from the London start, I was actually going to go there by myself but I've had a slipped disc over the last 3 months an at the time I could barely move
    http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.php?t=74171

The exam theme is "Objectivity" (totally vague), but I wanted something quite directly related to it, so I had the idea "Object of desire". The picture, when finished, will feature my face (on the right) blowing, and it will be blowing out my dreams almost like smoke, with the words "I wish" in them. Then the smoke curls round to the top which turns into a silver mens ring, which represents future romance, and I've got a hybrid of desires like me getting into a Mercedes SLK and working at the Hit Factory studios

Note above the car says "DO REFLECTIONS LATER" - the source piccy was too dark to match the theme so I will make up my own reflections for it. Sorry the pic is blurry ... scale is biggest I've ever drawn, A0-size paper T_T - I will keep this thread updated

Nice one. That car is looking swish!

I've just finished my A2 Graphics exams (15 hours), got it nicely printed out today, and its going in some exhibition for A2 art work

    Will post some pics later.

EDIT: This is gonna sound stupid, but are those pencils the really nice heavy ones?

Whoa 15 hours?! I only get 12 - mind you that's more than enough

Erm the pencils are lead pencils, thats all i know about them. I used HB and 6B lead pencils which are entirely made from lead, which means no sharpening the pencil

I think you'll find they're graphite rather than lead

using HB in art is odd, we used to use 2B -> 9B, as HB ->9H are too hard to get the tonal ranges without ruining the paper.. (2H+ are only usually used for technical drawings though)

    9B is silly soft though..

hehe, I think if you sneeze on the 9B's you end up with a small pile of black on the paper it's that soft

F was my fav pencil alongside a 2B during my A level, i didn't like the look of anything softer than a 3-4B and even then it has to be used sparingly to avoid that over excited shading look i used to produce when i was younger. my 2H even made the odd appearance

I dunno about pencils really I just know the darker one is 6B (I think of B as in bold, so that way I know its darker LOL) I bought these myself for the Art exam last year (the one I posted on here also) and I am just re-using them to 'keep things on the cheep'.

Thanks for the cool comments peeps Its annoying because I had to take my own photographs, so I took all the ones of me and I got away with pretending Ants pictures were my own (thanks again to you, out there somewhere lol) but I came across some cool photoshoot pics with nice reflections and everything I sorta finalised what I wanted to do while drawing this, I only knew that I was going to have the face on the right, and the ring at the top, along with the smokey thing planned out. All the rest is sorta... 'on the fly'. Argh I wish I sorted it out sooner now

It never really mattered what pencils I used as in the end I would ink them anyway. Fan of Black and White drawing to I used to sketch them out, then go over the outline in v5 pilot ink pens then actually ink the shading with black ink that I used to get cheap from T&G Allens down the road.

Only ever used colour once for a laugh which is linked below but as you can imagine, it was never submitted for anything xD

WIll warn, those of a weak stomach may not want to see this one before your lunch

Got the fullsize version somewhere, A3 is what it was originally on, will be on the PC at home somewhere.

Haha Grey, what a class picture I'm not a fan of art in itself, let alone colour pencils - so I just stick to black and white drawings

Thanks Kaine... although I'm not Unread I think that was meant to me

    So UPDATE: Day 2
Falling back in time a bit, having to step the speed up a notch. But I think I can get it done. Perhaps not perfectly but it's possible.

It all seems a bit funny because of the angle... but so far this is done

And heres a close up of the random me's (again, funny angle)

That hooge face on the right (visible on the first pic) is now my main priority. Then after that, the ring above the car. Argh I hope this all goes well!

That is the only colour I have used to date, still prefer me inks, just black and black to choose from good work on your a-level portfolio
