    DVD audio advice ???

    newbie advice required please ........

Have relatively old but good Sony CRT TV, seperate Freeview & seperate DVD player, all connected via SCART.
Audio level on Freeview is fine.
Audio level on DVD playback is very low - always has been with 2 different players.

Is this generic to all DVD's or just my TV??

Are there any 'all in one box' that will take all the inputs (DVD/Freeview/Console) or am I better off with seperate AV AMP/speakers (something from richersounds ???) ???

    thanks in advance JonMaC

An all in one box will do what you require, but a seperate amp/larger speakers will sound a great deal better. It all depends really on how muchh you want to spend, and how much of an audiophile you are

And yes you will have to wind up the volume a bit on the telly with DVDs because of the relatively high dynamic range. Look for Dynamic range compression or "night mode" options in the DVD player's menu.

Thanks for reply - can't find any settings on (cheap TARGA) DVD player for volume or dynamic compression or anything.

Has optical and coax 5.1 output - so thinking of getting a speaker/amp setup for time being, just for use when playing back on DVD.
Gonna test with my PC 2.1 setup first to make sure the theory will work.

    Any more suggestions welcomed.

a few years ago creative stuff was fairly highly rated at the bottom end - you'll probably get better results with a 1-box system, rather than an amp and seperate speakers at low-end..
