Re: Dominator + Rampage Formula combo

PC crashed again.. was completely idle with a couple of downloads in the background and when the PC tried to boot up from restart I had 2 occasions of BOOTMGR being corrupt (classic memory related error) and then the PC refused to post until I powered down. Immediately checked RAM with memtest86+ and it found 10 errors in the first 5 seconds. Booted off, checked RAM and it was barely luke warm. Tried both sticks in one at a time and both signalled clear for errors. Put both back in and tried memtest and still no errors.

Temperatures have been CPU cores around 40-50, NB at 38, SB at 36, MB at 36. It does not seem like a heat problem. I think it might be a voltage problem? The PC seemed stable when the RAM was at packet stated settings when it's voltage was set to auto for i37. Since I started overclocking the CPU I have manually set the RAM to 2.04v as when I check it in the BIOS and Everest at this setting the value seems to +0.6 to 2.1. If I put the RAM to 2.1v in the BIOS it is 2.16v and so on.

I have now overclocked the CPU to 3.4ghz (as mentioned earlier in another thread) and put the voltages up on the vcore and NB and placed the DRAM voltage to 2.1v even though it says now in PC Probe II that the DRAM voltage is 2.16.

I'm going to run a Prime95 blend test for two hours until errors otherwise I'm going to restart and run memtest to check for errors.

EDIT: Prime95 found errors straight after starting. Went into memtest and it instantly found errors at the stated overclock. Turned the PC off and turned it back on and no errors were found. What the hell is the problem.

I think the only plausable things can be that A.) Its your motherboard either becuase its broken or picky when it comes too RAM or B.) Your jsut unlcuky when it comes to RAM :/ Did you have a look at those screenshots i posted also ?
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

Yeah my timings and settings are all the same except my tRFC is 52 clocks. Does that matter?

RAM is VERY tempermental, always finds no errors when placed in one at a time. But will sometimes find errors straight away when both modules are in in dual channel mode. Annoying thing is that ebuyer confirmed that my previous RAM's were faulty so I don't know if I'm having bad luck and this RAM is faulty as well or if it's my motherboard that is A) borked B) DESTROYING MY RAM.

    Try 74 or so.

This is more likely a sign of some issue other than the RAM being tempermental. It could be a weak or failing memory controller or perhaps even a BIOS bug.

Re: Dominator + Rampage Formula combo

I agree. I think this RAM is fine, no idea what to do really. Guess I could RMA off the motherboard, have them test it at my expense.

Or I could just run everything at BIOS automated settings which seems to work fine but means no CPU overclock and the RAM is stuck at 800mhz. :/

This sounds IDENTICAL to my problem.

I flashed my BIOS using the windows Asus update flasher. I'll try what is stated here using the 0803 BIOS and see what happens.

Re: Dominator + Rampage Formula combo

Well I suppose it kind of helped going back to BIOS 0803. Still having problems, here are some facts that maybe someone can figure out for me:

    Memtest86+
Passes 3 full run throughs with no errors on each individual module at packet stated settings of 1066mhz/2.1v/CAS 5.5.5.15.
After 2 passes and 50% pass it found an error when both modules are fitted in dual channel mode, on a seperate occasion it found 2 errors after 46% of the first run.
Passes 3 full run throughs with no errors when the RAM is at 800mhz/1.9v/5.5.5.18.

Temperatures are all optimal, nothing above 45 degrees C.
    Voltages are:
    Vcore: 1.22v
    SB: 1.09v
    FSBT: 1.20v
    DRAM: 1.9v (2.1v when at 1066mhz)
    DRAM Ref: 0.98v (1.19 at 1066mhz)
    NB: 1.4v

Another bizzare fact is with Asus's PC Probe II. Every so often PC Probe II will go bezerk saying that my SB/NB//DRAM are all at 4.08v and then PC Probe II crashes.

I'll try these by the ASUS forums as well I think.

UPDATE: Yellowbeard, do you know if my RAM is made up of 128mb chips? According to my manual it says that the motherboard does not support this RAM and this guy has had similar problems: http://www.overclock.net/intel-mothe...ml#post6304299

This would explain why I keep having to RMA my RAM and why it seems to work and then fails, my motherboard could truly be destroying my RAM?
