Does anyone know why the price of Corsair RAM has more than doubled since this time last year.
Last year I bought two sticks of Corsair 2GB XMS2 PC 8500 RAM for around £40 (from Scan I think) It's now £90 (from Scan) It's weird.

Because the materials to build the memory have more than doubled in that same period of time. DDR2 is being phased out by the IC manufacturers and will cost more due to supply and demand.
To be fair, not all manufactures are as bad..
Dont get me wrong, im a loyal customer of corsair, have many psu's, sets of ram, and my latest H50.
But there are cheaper manufactures out there, G.Skill, Geil, OCZ etc.
That might be true of DDR2 but its well known that memory is getting very expensive again at the moment. Even within the past two weeks alone for example, the following product has gone up in price by about £35 on Scan;
"8GB(4x2GB) CorsairXMS3 Dominator DDR3 PC3-12800(1600), CAS 8-8-8-24, XMP, DHX, DF, 1.65V"
That's a significant increase in price! I'm preparing to buy a new system and have been updating my spreadsheet monthly and I'm sad to say that without changing anything, a lot of the parts have been getting more expensive!!
I too love Corsair and have always bought their memory but I do wish Scan stocked DDR3 memory from other brands. Customers from the USA seem to get a much better selection
My first tripple channel kit:
A year ago:
TRIPLE 6GB 3x2G TR3X6G1333C9 £55.63 £63.97
£63.97 Inc vat. On the 6/4/2009
The same kit today costs £141.12.
I have only been able to afford DDR2 RAM for my Proliant Ml115 (esx) because I bought from other Hexus members 2nd hand. The price is an extortion.
Dec 2008: 2x2Gb Corsair XMS £36 (Scan) bought 2kits, i.e., 8Gb for £72. Today I wouldn't buy a single kit.

You cannot compare like for like with regard to 2008 and now, for one DDR2 is being phased out.
The Pound is still low on the market.
DRAM prices plummeted due to market saturation in 08/09.
We're still recovering from and could dip back into a recession, luxury goods are likely to increase in price at such a time...
We've got a hung parliament lowering the pound more...
Sure it sucks, but it's got feck all to do with the manufacturers...
Can you show me examples of this? We have a forum, a contacts page, and our TSX Express.

We do our best to make it easy for customers to contact us.
Sales can't help you with this. "Sales" is the part of the company that sells from Corsair to distributors and retailers. They do not deal directly with end users. You need to contact Customer Service.
Also, PMs are not a reliable way to contact anyone from Corsair. And, I have been been out of the office most of this year and unable to check PMs.

The manufacturing materials increased in price OP and the demand for the memory was high, over time both decreased in value and demands shifted towards higher quality kits therefore the mid range kits 2-8 GB fell in value.
Maybe it's also time to think about the future and a new mod. I've been running an X58 now with 12GB of DDR3 ram and it's the best PC I've ever had. Of course Yellowbeard would prefer to see me running Dominator GT or Corsair Vengeance memory...and I will when funds become available
Got my Corsair 16GB DDR3-133mhz for £65 quid.
Now I'm running Corsair vengeance LP. Great ram and very stable.
I also wish Scan would offer a better range of memory, they are my favourite supplier (even tho I no longer live on their doorstep) btu they need to offer memory from other manufacturers like OCZ, Mushkin (my current unbelievably good ram) and in fact just about anyone else other than Corsair.
Anybody used Hynix memory? any good?
