    Which CPU?

    Hi all,

Not been around for an age as i haven't had a PC.

Looking to buy components for a cheap Gaming build, which i'm looking to pair with a 5850. So, which CPU would you guys recommend at the mo?

Looking to spend very little over £300, which will include the card @ £120.

Just Need : CPU, Board, Ram, HDD, GPU & PSU.

I will upgrade bits as i go, so no need for super-duper power or aftermarket coolers as yet!

    Re: Which CPU?

Do you still have the Q6600??

I would overclock a bit more and wait a few more months. An overclocked Q6600 and an HD5850 is what I am using currently.

Also, have you got the card yet?? You can get the better HD6870 1GB for around £120 to £130.

However,£180 for a CPU,motherboard,PSU and RAM is not much.

If you include a £40 PSU,it would mean £140 is left. 8GB of RAM can be had for around £31. This means the CPU and motherboard would only have a budget of around £100.

TBH,I would save up at least another £60 to £70.

A few suggestions of the top of my head:
    1.)Athlon II X3 450 or 455 ~ £55
    2.)970 motherboard ~ £70 to £75
    3.)4GB RAM ~ £20 to £25
    4.)Antec TruePower New 550W ~ £54
    5.)HD6870 1GB ~ £120 ~ £130

I would not skimp on the motherboard. The other alternatives are a Phenom II X4 955BE for between £80 to £90 or a Core i3 2100 for around £85 to £95.
