BTW,a poster on Anandtech forums noticed that the new socketed Jaguar chips are now made at GF.

Now, that is interesting! I wonder if that's why they weren't released along with the BGA parts?

I suppose having GCN and Jaguar ported to GF could ease the transition for the console chips if they chose to multi-source them as has historically happened, e.g. the 360's 90nm Xenon was made at both IBM and Chartered, but that came later IIRC.

I'd guess that the clips on a standard (A|F)M(1|2|3)[+] cooler mounting make it impossible to produce a slim enough cooler for a slim-itx enclosure. At that point they're stuck with either leaving off the retaining clips and hoping people can find the right bolt-through solution, or going for a different cooler mounting.

Desktop Kabini review at Anantech forums has been updated with power measurements with a more efficient PSU. Based on my own testing of PSUs at low wattages though, I suspect there's still some room to drop consumption with a PicoPSU and decent power brick for instance.

Blimey I thought that was long dead. ISTM they bought PCs based on hype rather than the reviews which quite clearly said it was slow. The information was out there, I don't see how they have a case.

Issue width of 6 is beyond wide and into completely mental territory. If they can do a variant that can hit 3GHz, then I don't see why they need Intel any more.

It also strikes me that such a wide setup is crying out for multi threading.

Yeah I guess I'll have to have a read through that article to see how/why they've done that? Even on desktop workloads I though 4-wide was often hard to fully utilise, hence Bulldozer. But Apple obviously don't seem to have lost a ton of power/performance like you'd expect going that wide!

4 is very hard to utilise, hence mobile designs usually top out at 2 to stay well away form diminishing returns and be power efficient.

As for why, performance at all costs. How? Throw transistors at it
