Is it as good as timesplitters was when that came out on ps2?

are you saying the achievements dont work?
because i have achieved some already :s
I don't think its *that* good.
Class balance is off, spies for one are a bit of an overpowered class, you can expect a general mix (though no medics, because other than healing you cant actually get points elsewhere), and about 5 - 6 spies on your team because they are so powerful. Can destroy sentries and kill anything in one hit! The only defence I've found so far is having your secondary weapon out and shooting everyone on your team until one of them turns the enemy colour.
Of course, if friendly fire is on, this doesn't work.
Other problems being, the fairly limited gameplay. Played it for a few hours today after work and it got a bit boring because you build turrets in the same place and generally do the same tactics every time - theres not that much spontaneity.
But combat is quite fun, though scouts can be annoying as if you're up against a good player he can kill you in one hit (they have a very strong shotgun at close range), whilst still having the advantage of double jump and massive speed. So some balancing needed.
Worst thing - the respawn timer! Takes a lot of the flow out of it theres probably a reason - so you spawn with your teammates - but waiting 15 seconds watching your team every couple of a minutes isnt the best way to play a game as fast paced as tfc.
On the upside, its something new and it can only improve. At the minute though I'm almost fed up of it and I've only been playing in the spare hours after work.
I love the graphics tho, and I love pressing 'g' - your character does a little dance lol. edit: yes that does mean theres no grenades
Remember this is still technically a beta so Valve will almost certainly tinker with the class balance before releasing the full game. I agree with you on the spawn timer...if you get 20 second wait it can be annoying
I think the countdown timer is good tbh as i think it depends on your character, i seemed to notice but im not 100% sure if it actually was happening, but i thought that the sniper, spy and engineer all take a lot longer than the scouts and heavy's to respawn?
no it's random
and I wouldnt worry about unbalanced classes, on cs:s valve constantly changed damage values and the like on weapons so in TF2 i think they can easily change certain values depending on users
i personally think the scout is overpowered, the shotty is too strong but the engies' shotty takes like 4 shots to kill someone on average :s
but i forget im playing a beta sometimes so it will change over time, i still have portal and ep 1 and 2 to play too
(btw im completed the peggle extreme thing, what a great game that is)

I have to admit I've been waiting for this game with baited breath - shame, it's just a slightly prettier version of the classic Q3F - played it this morning for a few hours and became bored - I will be playing it frequently in the future, I just somehow hoped it would have been a big improvement - First person shooters are starting to repeat themselves - quakewars demo looks quite a bit like bf2142.
Wise old man won't you help me please? My house is a squash and a squeeze.
I have to say i'm really likeing it. Its just a break from the norm in that the graphics just make it feel more fun and not too serious.
That said, it really feels too slooooooooooow... like its was made with the 360 in mind rather then PC. Hopefully the final PC version will take into account the better controls. I also think that they may have oversimplified some things too much.
