Is TF2 the best thing ever?

Having just played TF2 for a good 4 hours, I can honestly say it was well worth the wait (although I didn't play the first, so not really that long, only since the trailers etc )

The classes are all brilliant, and I love the emphasis on the teamplay aspect, moreso in a way than something like CS, purely because some classes are next to useless in ilosation, compared to how effective they are when complimented appropriately.

The balance on all the classes seems incredibly well done, certainly doesn't feel like anyone has a advantage by just sticking with one etc.

As i understand it there are only 6 maps, and I've only played 2 so far, but experiencing both the kind of assault and ctf modes, both seem wicked

Honestly the best thing I've played in ages, this will be the next big thing in multiplayer I'm sure.

Anyone got any other first impressions?

    PS. Damn you spies!

Sounds awsome m8. In terms of specs...How good does ur rig have to be? CS:S is pretty shocking when it comes to FPS, its jsut poorly done. When it first came out i could get 250 on stress test, now i get 30's in fire fight with an fps config.

Maybe i should download and paly to check seeing as ur rig is a monster

Re: Is TF2 the best thing ever?

Yeh I'm really liking it, i only played for about 30mins as ive been busy, but i should be on it for the rest of the day hopefully. From what i have played so far its very nice, and they cell shaded style is very cool too, you don't really notice it apart from the gunfire effects which are really nice.

Lol and yes the spies are very annoying as long as your not one yourself!

    It runs really nicely.

My iMac ain't anything special on the gfx-front (crappy X1600), and it runs all Source Engine stuff (from TF2, to all HL2 stuff)@ 1860x1050, 2xAF, 2xAA at a more-than-playable level, so you should be fine.

As for playing it, I played it for half an hour or so this morning and it seems really fun. Will play more when i have the time.

Just finished playing it...plays really well! Got it running with everything maxed at 1280x1024 on a Q6600 and 7800GTX and its smooth as silk. The graphics are brilliant...cartoony but still detailed. And the sounds are great too esp when you get a good kill!

To be honest, it plays so well that it's hard to tell that it's a beta.

Re: Is TF2 the best thing ever?

I guess they are using it to find any bugs/exploits, and as with a lot of things, to root out different hacks etc so they can ban them.

I spose fine balancing of certain classes may also take place over the next month or so, as they must be gathering usage/efficiency stats etc.

Maybe new maps and stuff too, that'd be good ;] *hint* if anyone valve related is reading this

The existing ones are expertly made and balanced though

Oh my this really is that good. Just had a go for a bit and its perfect in my book. Even with my horrible wireless connection it was still perfectly playable with the occasional hiccup. Of course it could be a short lived fad but i reckon its got some staying power at least.
