Buying US Steam games in the UK

    hi all,

Just thought I'd ask in here as to whether anyone has found a way [a legal way that is] of getting the US Steam games for a UK account.

I've tried begging, bribing and abusing any us-one-time-msn-chat-friends to see whether they will gift them over to me, but alas no luck.

    Anyone know any easy ways?

US Steam games? If you're talking about the pricing being in $, you just add tax onto the price and it works fine - I use Paypal for that.

yeah you can buy all of the games on steam, your bank transaction will automatically convert the cost. And i guess uk users will most likely get a uk server to download from as well.

Not possible, but you can usually just buy the games yourself on UK steam, albeit at rip off prices sometimes.

Yes. For example FarCry only available in the USA and not in the UK or the rest of Europe.

I heard some people say it's almost racist... well either way, it sucks.

Re: Buying US Steam games in the UK

Sorry, to confirm I'm talking about buying games that are only available in the US on Steam, i.e. as mentioned before the Ubisoft series of games.

I'm basically a big Steam fan [80 games and counting] and the idea of getting some of the Tom Clancy games on Steam [with all the benefits of no-cd and no-faff] is a strong urge for me [yes sad and probably ineffective i know ...]

Cheers for the replies so far

Doubt it'll ever be possible to be honest. I too would be very interested. Why is it that some titles aren't available for us to buy? Is it just the developers not giving permission or something?

    ^

Some people believe it is because they flat-out don't care and are verging on racism. Ubisoft get alot of bad stick these days. Not suprised, I bought Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Double Agent and there is no way to get it to run on Vista. It's "designed for XP" but they have released absolutely no patches and it's not even an old game. Hitman 2 works like a charm, however.

It's a shame, as I'd buy Far Cry for sure.

I personally think we need to find someone on Hexus who's trustworthy and from the states - get them to gift it across If there's enough of us, we can say thanks somehow and make it quite lucrative for them.

I've been playing with a proxy to get it to read that I'm from the US but then the payment comes from the UK ... natch.

    Get an american bank account

I'm sure there are some americans who would have a foreign client, if only so that they can rip the client off more than banks already do....

Of course, you could always emmigrate.

Ok, we'll call them plan B and plan Z respectively

and looked into an American account before, all wanted you to have a mailing address in the US ... too much faff for very little gain.

Nope, just need to befriend an American and go from there ...

So Americans can gift UKers American-only games such as Far Cry?

Re: Buying US Steam games in the UK

This may be a silly question but since we seem to have a different database of games at sometimes different prices (Bioshock was at $19 apparently at US) why don't we just get prices in £/Euros?
