    Steam Games no longer working

For some reason both HL2 and CS: Source have stopped working.

I run the game, it starts loading and then.... nothing. If I open taskman then the "hl2.exe" process shows as running and is always using 17Mb RAM. I've uninstalled steam, deleted the folders, reinstalled steam, redownloaded the games, etc and yet it's still the same.

    Any suggestions?

    System is:

    DFI Lanparty nf4 SLI-D
    Gigabyte 7800GTX
    2Gb Corsair Value
    A64 3000 @ 2.7GHz
    2x 10k Raptors, RAID 0

Yeah it is, but they worked previously. I can't remember what I've installed or changed that's caused them to suddenly stop working.

Not sure why it'd make a difference, but do you launch them via Steam or via a desktop shortcut?

Odd. I don't even have Steam installed and the games play fine. Do you have any system restore points that you can at least look at if not restore too, to get an idea of what's gone wrong?

Have you got Norton installed? A recent norton update caused this exact issue for a friend of mine, disabling the bloatware fixed the problem
