Personally I found using the inn's a lot really helped, a lot of items just aren't needed often and you end up coming back near one after most quests anyway giving you time to restock etc. Pretty you sure you can store as much as you want there, if there is a limit I never managed to reach it, despite my best efforts.
Its really handy for little odds and ends you need later, without spoiling... keep a little wyvern meat from act 2

I really like the addition of the alchemy bag with the enhanced edition makes it a lot easier to just make new potions on the fly without having to go back to an inn to get your ingredients.

What about sources of potion bases? I find the prices for the alcohol in the inns a bit extortionate (~30 ?) and making white gull is pointless as it itself requires an alcohol base...

White gull can be used to make higher end potions, which would normally require the best alcohol. Once you're into a the game a bit you can usually do ok just picking up alcohol off the ground(check every crate, barrel, corpse etc). Selling weapons is a good way to make money, and if you play like me and just use swords and magic mainly you can usually just equip them to yourself until you get back to sell them meaning they don't fill up your inventory.

As Devil says... White Gull is great for turning cheap alcohol into a high quality base + herbs are free! pick all that you see. You'll need high quality base to make unique potions. But... saying that a lot of the most useful potions don't need particularly high quality bases to make e.g. Swallow, cat, tawny owl.

High quality grease! thats what you want so you can make cinifrid and hangman's venom

20 Orens isn't much just do some gambling. I've always got new armor by the start of Act II coz I gamble... a lot, I'm good at it
