Hi, im about to buy an elite today but my main question is does all elites contain the new jaspar chips inside? Is the jaspar chips the latest and most reliable consoles?

Hah, nice one man...
Yeah my girlfriends housemate just bought herself a brand new elite (from Gamestation, she got Tekken 6, Fifa 10, the wireless entertainment pack - being Lego Batman, Pure and another black wireless pad) for £199. I didn't open it up or anything but it's a lot quieter than the typical Xbox's and the power supply is a lot smaller.
It runs hella cool too, we were watching a film on it and there was cool air coming out the back - I think the room was kinda cold at the time, but still! I've never had that before lol.

Yea i decided **** it. life is too short and i wanna buy things that make me happy and not keep saving and saving like i usually do lol.
Off to Game to get one
Theres a guide on Anandtech showing how you can confirm you've got a Jasper unit.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.
Bring on the newer one than Jasper! Rumoured to have both CPU & GPU on same package was it ? As well as die shrink (necessary i suppose) quite a feat if they did that.

I personally have a feeling that they may introduce something along the lines of Xbox Slim if rumours are true to some extent... maybe in conjunction to Natal to help refresh the entire lineup. I mean the Xbox itself is quite a simple build (compared to the build complexity of the PS3) and since the PSU is now smaller and there's so much room in the current Xbox as it is, they could probably find a way of stuffing the PSU brick in there too.
Lets hope anyway! Would be interesting to see.
After getting there reliability problems sorted (finally ?) i think the last thing there going to do is stick a 150W PSU in there, and tbh i've looked into 3 different generations of 360's and i don't know where this room is that you talk of, besides i don't think anyone i sreally put off by the power brick size are they ?

The xbox has a very simple design - a huge PC DVD drive (what about a netbook type one? or a bespoke slimmer drive?), a huge CPU heatsink on a single motherboard that was just made because of the room it had available (like the tiny inefficient GPU heatsink), and so much empty space around and under the DVD drive as well as around the CPU (esp to the right of it). Compare it to typical ram-packed console design like the PS3 (its so fat but considering it has fancy things like touch sensitive buttons, the space previously reserved for a card reader, a slot loading blu-ray drive, built in PSU, wifi & BT, and a far better cooling technique) it's very spacious.
I reckon if the 360 had a slim DVD drive with perhaps a PSU stretched under it, and then on the right the motherboard was designed to have the GPU and CPU entirely one side of the motherboard, you could cool those sufficiently there and perhaps even remove the chances of an rrod as the GPU cooling would be far more efficient without the limited headspace of a DVD drive above it. Eventhough there's plenty of room for internal HDD and wifi, I doubt Microsoft will stop the cash cow of their accessories, plus the external harddrive attachment has always been a good idea.
A built-in PSU just keeps a console all in one, as although it's hardly much it's still easier for everyone really. I know that although it's not much of a bother, people would rather have it all in one than have an extra power brick around (especially considering the majority of consoles in circulation are the Xbox's with the massive power bricks, lol).
And then on top of that, if the new GPU/CPU is merged and/or a lot smaller and cooler, this obviously would drastically change the design possibilities of the 360.
I thought you meant put it inside the current deisgn not a new one, but any how, what about the 3rd heatsink that comes out towards the right of the DVD drive, whether you have a smaller drive or not they cant just tack off parts of the cooling system.
Also, does anybody know if the 360 has a EIST/CnQ type feature. When i've had mine opened up and just on the dashboard both heatsinks got really hot to the point where you couldnt touch them for longer than a few seconds so i assumed its running at full pelt constantly - seems poor not to have some sort of low power mode.

There's only two heatsinks (unless you got a falcon like my new 360, where there is technically still 2 heatsinks as the GPU one has a heatpipe with another attached) but yeah you are right, even if it's been on for 10 seconds the GPU heatsink gets hot beyond touch. Maybe there's some sort of minor power management, like from medium and high rather than the laptop efficiency we get these days, but I know the 360 heat changes according to stress but that's quite normal for high end modern GPU's and CPU's really I guess.
Just got it from game with an extra controller and 4 games for 200 notes. Not bad and the date of manifacture is october 20th 2009
They tried to sell me their GAME warranty but said no thanks because as far as im aware, the 3rrod is still under warranty for 3 years right?
