    Medieval Total War (Original) Crash

I recently got round to installing XP on my Netbook, and have been getting some old games on there to keep me entertained on journeys. I managed to get Medieval Total War (The original one) installed but I'm having an issue with the campaign. I select new campaign, choose my faction etc. and then start the campaign, but rather then loading to the map, the game crashes to desktop. Everything else on the game works fine, custom battles run perfectly smoothly. I've also got Rome Total War running on it with no problems. After a bit of googling I discovered that quite a few of people are having this problem with modern graphics cards, and it can be solved by rolling back the drivers to an older version. But being the n00b I am I can't find the older drivers for the chipset (Intel GMA 950), and I don't know whether that will help anyway.

    Any ideas?

This has been a problem with all TW games to some extent. That's what CA call progress.. One thing taken from total war forums.

    Hello,

since I got my Nvidia 8800GTS I could not start MTW anymore, which was especially annoying because I bought the Eras Package. I even tried an old MTW version but it also did not work. After reading in various forums I thought it had something to do with the Nvidia Graphics Driver.

When I updated the driver tonight (version 175.16) I decided to give MTW another try. CTD when starting a campaign, just as I was fearing.

However, for some reason I also installed the Napoleon Total War Mod and tried again... SUDDENLY IT STARTED PERFECTLY.

So it could not be a graphics driver issue... I started toying around, removed and cleanly installed MTW, made a backup and tried to find out what made MTW work when I installed the Mod. I succeded to narrow the problem down to TWO FILES:

button_ipnext.BIF and button_ipprev.BIF in the "Medieval - Total War\campmap\buttons" Folder.

I verified it by using the clean, vanilla installation and only replacing those two files with the ones from the Mod.

NO CTD'S UNTIL NOW ANY MORE !!!

So to all those out there who also have the CTD problem when starting a campaign: Please try it out and report if it works for you.

Here is a Link to a zip file containing the two buttons: http://rapidshare.com/files/11521154...D_Fix.zip.html

Alternatively you can of course install the NTW1 Mod.

That could be something to do with screen resolution, had the same problem and thats how I fixed it. Try changing your desktop resolution and see what happens.

Did you try also reducing your colour depth, make you you have it on a standard 4:3 resolution also as I dont think it actually supports widescreen resolutions.

Have you also tried using the compatability mode if you are using Vista or 7
