I don't know to what extent there's statistical error in my source. I also don't know whether the numbers are directly comparable (e.g. the old units sold vs units shipped trick). The difference is barely more than 10% difference though, which doesn't seem unreasonable.

You can argue about sales all day, but the consoles will always sell more combined and possibly on their own.

Re: Battlefield 3 going multi plat

Its a real shame, but consoles are where the money is..so its where most developers will head to

They first did it with Thief 3 and Deux Ex 2 - both should have been brilliant sequels but ended up being shockingly bad console ports, I made enough posts on here at the time complaining about it hehe. This trends has continued onwards, not always resulting in bad games, but *always* resulting in simplified, dumbed down inferior games.

Battlefield 2 was and still is one of my favourite PC games - 64 player epic battles that were really only rivalled by Planetside when that still had players (hundreds per map..awesome game!).

I'm still hopeful that DICE will see sense and develop this as a PC game, and then port it to consoles. That method results in better games for the PC, and inferior ones for the consoles that still sell bucketloads. Mmm I wish.

Personally I never enjoyed any of the bad company games, I'm a PC Battlefield fan and they were really too "consolerised"..but if they can keep the feel of Battlefield 2/2142, the 64 player maps (hey, why not make them bigger?), Dedicated servers, and a PC driven control mechanism, it'l still be a great game. Fingers crossed

Re: Battlefield 3 going multi plat

For all we know, the PC and console versions could be quite different. Pc getting the frostbite engine 2 and consoles keeping the 1.5 version.
Whats to say they won't outsource the game to another EA studio, like what is happening now with MoH - the multiplayer component is already set up and all EA would have to do is find someone to string singleplayer along, leaving the PC platform open to Dice.

They'll do whatever makes the most economic sense. It's probably worth mentioning Dragon Age here, which had a very different PC-centric UI in the PC version.

4.37m to be accurate. And even if all the remaining 0.63m copies had gone to PC it would still be well behind either console (0.94m), let alone both together. In fact it would have < 20% market share.

For those who are still consumed by rage and refuse to click the link:

In February former DICE chief executive, and studio manager of DICE Canada, Fredrik Liliegren, confirmed that Battlefield 3 had been in development at the Swedish studio for the past three years.

"What the PC version is going to be, Battlefield 3, I think it's going to absolutely blow everyone away, but I can't tell you what it is, but it will blow people away... because it's not Modern Warfare 2 PC, it's not that experience," he said.

And in June 2009 EA COO John Pleasants said, "I've had the luxury of looking at Battlefield 3 over at DICE in Sweden... Of course, that's not in the [current] fiscal year, but that is a product that is looking very good."
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."

Re: Battlefield 3 going multi plat

I hope they make it PC centric then dumb it down for the consoles. I doubt thats the way it will work though because the money men will say look at the console sales compared to PC. Its a shame but thats the way it is probably going to be.

Ive got to ask,who the hell decided that getting rid of dedicated servers was a smart idea for games?
