thats what i said in my previous post, graphics aren't everything, look at robotron for example, looks like it was done in paint but you can waste hours on it trying to get anywhere near level 20

Heh, we should remake a great game like RTCW or COD on the original Doom engine.

Manic Miner is still one of the best games ever, created by genius Matthew Smith.

Grey: Fair enough, although its hard to judge how fun a game will be to play on the basis of a screen shot. I know I can't work out if Doom III or Half Life II is going to be 'fun', and I've seen a lot of screens and videos.

well doom 3 has been made to make you crap yourself inside out and thats its sole purpose according to Carmack (thee mighty god of gaming) Zelda and Res Evil have always been favs of mine so they will no doubt stick out a lot more than the HL2 and Doom 3 offerings but as I am a fan of the doom series I would prefer to play Doom 3 over HL2 at the beginning and pick up HL2 at a later date.

The CoD idea on the original doom engine could be quite, whats the word i am looking for... Entertaining lol would take a while to cod everything in but no doubt it would still be fun

Anyone else starting to think HL2 is looking like an old tech game based on this ?
Look at the houses - blocks ?
The crane dont even look like it has a texture applied to it and is all one nasty out of place orange colour, that is uneffected by light.
dude, no that crane hasnt had texture applied to it, can u not see that?
even the beach isnt fully textured,
(im sorry guys as always) but i have played the leak and every so often in it there are walls that say stuff like reflectivity 80% or wall number 2 goes here. all these bits are bright orange just like that crane, they havnt released any new screen shots since the last e3 (or very few).

this screenshot is very old even older than the 20 minute trailer the buggy in that trailer has a bonnet and more panels and the boat is more detailed. please watch the video again if u havnt already

i think they will have changed alot of stuff come this years e3 that may be why they havnt produced any new screens.
i still remain confident that hl2 will rock to hell, but if valve has one more slip up before the release date im gonna change my mind alot.
then itll be stalker and d3 for me!

i'm still well looking forward to HL2, not allowed to discuss the reasons why here (tho that should reveal them to you if you have half a brain )

but seriously its gonna bea great game, just look at all the vids and remember that most of the action is UN-SCRIPTED - the enemys etc all react to you, and they are not fully pre-programmed. theres nothing else like it at the moment

yeah doom 3 looks ace too (influenced by same reasons i cant talk about with hl2) =p

both will be great games, and i will get em both - but they both have different aims imho

Doom3 is VERY scary and violent, traditional doom with a slightly better story =)
HL2 is more action/story orientated, will need more thinking. Things like the Phys-Gun can have amazing effects on a situation. Do you use your last bullet on that guard, or use the physgun to pick up a barrel and use it as a baseball bat...is it better to face a roomfull of guards 1v1 or to just go around...or you go round a corner, see loads of enemies but no cover, so you retreat before they see you, pick some up and take it with you.

As you can tell i rekon HL2 is gonna be great

yup exactly right, i'm replaying it again now on my old laptop and i'm still loving it. Mainly replaying tho cos i forgot what the Gman said at the end and apparently (according to PCzone) its fairly important to the HL2 story that u know what he said =)

Seeing as though you work for him in the new one (if I remember reading an article correctly) then yes it is important.
