    hl2 put back to october

hl2 is apparently not going to make its september release date! oh joy!
    according to games radar.com
    games radar says....

Further to last week's reports that Half-Life 2 may be in shops as soon as September, we've had clarification on the game's current status from Doug Lombardi, the marketing director at the game's developers Valve.

"We are planning to deliver a release candidate to Vivendi later this month and we're hoping to see the product on store shelves this fall but we do not have a confirmed ship date at this time," he told us.

A "release candidate", in case you were wondering, is actually a pre-gold version of a game that developers pass on to publishers. At this stage, the product features all designed functionalities and is ready to release unless fatal bugs emerge. It only goes "gold" after testing and approval from a publisher though - who can ask for a number of release candidates from a developer before approving a game.

So... still no confirmed release date beyond the autumn, although that does suggest it's more likely to be October than the previously hinted-at September.

    surpirse surprise!
all this with the release of three, yes three! new screenshots! wow
just hope people can still remeber how bad (or good) doom3 is by then, so they think hl2 is amazing...which im sure it will be, mabye....

Well, I guess they are all - including Valve - still guesstimating dates. Who knows, Spe/Oct, or even beyond... But at least it does seem to be in the home straight now, unlike a year ago. Guess we've waited this long, so a little bit longer won't matter, and I'm sure we are all happy if that extra time is used to produce an ultimately better polished product.

Still, late Oct. That's bang in GTA:SA territory. Looks like I won't be getting much sunshine around that time of year. :-)

One rumour is that it scheduled for a 2005 release.

But tbh I honestly dont care about this game. Didn't really like Half Life too much think I must be the only one.

Looking forward to MOHPA, Brothers In Arms, Men Of Valor, Stalker.

Doom III a bit crap, and Half Life II constantly put back. Oh my poor (and still not arrived) X800XT-PE.

Will it have anything worthy of its power, to play? Maybe Rome: Total War can save me...

im hoping to have a 9800xt for it (cant afford a 6800 or x800)
how much are 9600xts now cause valve say thats the middle to top graphics card for hl2
just cant wait any longer im gonna have to watch videos over and over

Well, thank god I've got a couple of consoles - XBOX and PS2 (please, spare me the 'all consoles are lame' routine if you're that type of individual.) There's Halo2, GTA:SA, GT4, MGS3, and about 5-10 others on my radar. Sure, some of them will be a disappointment, but some of them will be good, so all is not lost. And I'm sure we'll see HL2 this side of Xmas too - if only Gabe can get himself down the gym to lose some weight and regain a little bit of focus. :-)

Not to sure about the PC side of things though? Anyone have any idea of PC titles worth watching this side of Xmas? CoD follow up, I think? Stalker has been put back to 05, I'm sure? Oh, and I think there's a KotOR sequel coming soon too? Please feel free to add any others you think are worth looking out for (as I've got an overclocked 6800GT here doing nothing other than running Windoze. :-))

    Cheers,

I've heard the same rumour as Eddy, that it's not coming out until next year...but I heard it twice

...the first was from some gaming magazine, who gave no supporting evidence as to why this might be...

...and the second was even less trustworthy being from a friend of a friend who knows this reporter who signed a non-disclosure agreement and was told that it's not likely to go gold until very late this year, so probably not retail until 2005, although Valve would really be rushing to get it out for December/Christmas sales...

...and the rumour mill keeps on churning...

LoL, no surpises here, why do they even bother releasing dates, just tell us when you've finished it!
I don't mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious, but I am so that's the way it comes out.
