I popped in the HL2 CD last night, hit run, and for some reason it ran DM by default! It did an upgrade/download and bingo. Easy as pie to get running, but I was getting absolutely slaughtered. For about 4 hours, LOL. I'm new to DMs but even so it was ridiculous. I was aiming at people with the machine gun spraying away and they hardly ever died. But I usually died first shot. Still a great laff tho.
I reckon my old video card & dodgy broadband connection are partly to blame.
P.S. Silly question: With a newer graphics card, when you pick up a large object with the gravity gun, does it go semi-transparent? It would be kinda nice if you could see to aim!

No it doesn't, the Grav Gun would be overpowered if you didn't have your vision blocked. As for getting owned, don't worry about it, just learn the weapons.

For starters, the Magnum is overpowered, its a one-hit kill from any range weapon; I once snuck up behind this kid and shot him twice, from half a screen away with the alternate fire off the shotgun (both barrels) before he turned around noticed I was there and killed me in one hit.

As for the machine gun, aim for the head, if you are shooting first but still losing, its probably head shots. Keep moving and go for the opponents brains.

The Cross Bow is also one hit kill but with a massive reload time, its no Magnum.

Its pretty easy to finish in the top 3 odd on even a 24 man game if you just find where the Magnum spawns, run there every time, grab it, get 3 or 4 easy kills, get gunned down and repeat. The 4-1 kill ratio will be enough to get you in the top 3.

The Rocket Launcher is also good, but at close range, you'll fire, hit the other player and blow yourself up, where as the Magnum will just kill them.

In short - get the Magnum, its silly, overpowered and far too good.

And it shoots too fast, and is a sniper rifle over range

And has a largeish ammo clip, a not-too-bad reload time, and as you say, is a sniper rifle as the shot does not deviate from its path.

lol, maybe if they introduced not being able to to move whilst bleeding to death, the magnum to toe shot would be more credible.
