    The Punisher = Popcorn gaming

After playing the demo last week I went out and got the new Punisher game and I've gotta say I'm pretty Impressed. It does however typify "Popcorn Gaming" for those who don't know what I mean, its very much the same as popcorn films, huge hollywood blockbusters with a plot thinner than posh spice on the atkins diet driven purely by the action.

The ai isn't brilliant and theres very little in the way of a storyline to drive you to play other than "that guys a mafia boss, kill him" yet I can't seem to stop playing it. I'm driven to find more and more ingenious ways of slaughtering russian terrorists, while it may seem simple imo its a triumph amongst 3rd person action games, a genre previosly ruled by max payne tbh. Simply said, if you want a nice pick up and blast game this is quality

Knox, yep, I agree... it's the sheer variety of ways to things...everything from opening a door to using the surroundings to take bad guys out... move over 'alternate fire', Punisher has brought a whole new facet to the genre...

Just played through the first level on it, you can see that its made for consoles and its just a port over, it uses Direct X 8.

Must admit, its a pretty good game, however it could be better. Textures on it look pretty awful, looks like its running in 256 colours at times, especially the walls and the glow from lights, facial expressions are pretty minimalistic.

Some of the ways to interogate and kill people are fun though. Yeah I will play it through eventually but if something else takes my fancy then I think it will end up putting this on the bottom of the pile unfortunately.

After seeing the great looks on HL2 and the other new releases as of late visually this is pretty poor. I hate it when a console version is just ported over to the PC. Look at HALO, great game on the X Box but ended up just getting ported with all teh glitches. I think THQ should have polished up the graphics on this as it looks really shabby. (You can probably tell I like my visuals on games ! ) I think a game like this needs a bit more depth in the way it looks. Mafia had a great underworld kinda feel to it and looked amazing and still does to this day, this however looks pale in comparrison.

Yeah, get it if you just want something to pass the time temporarily but I wouldnt rush out to buy it.

I thought the film had so much potential but fell short. Game is fun, just think they should have put a bit more effort in the PC version instead of just porting it over
