    Starfield

At the recent showcase they released a 45 minute deep dive video:

Nice to see it's coming along, though wasn't really anything new (just more of it). Seems like it's another Bethesda game, but in space Got more of a Fallout vibe but with a less cool setting and a lot more exploration - I'm looking forward to the ship building. Less so settlement building (always seems set up for controller so a bit of a pain on M+K - though I bet Cat will manage some masterpieces. )

    Re: Starfield

First game I've looked forward to in a long time.
It's been a while since I pre-ordered anything and this might just be worthy.

I've been following along since the initial announcement.
I hated Fallout, but played the heck out of Skyrim, so Spacerim will hopefully be good fun.

Not such a fan of the jetpack combat - This ain't The Mandalorian or Mass Effect Andromeda.

    Re: Starfield

    Looks interesting.

I only have one problem .... well, kind-of a two-part problem, but they're directly linked.

Part a) I don't like paying full price, or really anywhere near it, for games. I get why people do it if they're playing with others (especially online, but even local co-op), but I'm only really interested in single-player, and locally-based at that.

Part b), Given part a, I have a LONG list of games already in either GOG, or my pretty recent Steam account, I still haven't played.

As I'm playing single, if it's a choice of a game that was state of the art two, or even five years ago, at a couple of quid, or the latest craze at, well, Cyberpunk 2077-type prices, guess what I'm going to do?

TL - DR? I'm a tight git with a backlog of games I've yet to play.

    Re: Starfield

That SSD requirement is an odd one. I'm running out of SATA/pcie channels so don't have a lot of SSD capacity and prefer to save it for something it'll make a real difference in.

I'm hoping this is the game Andromeda should have been. So disappointed with that one.

That does look very pretty, but I've not gotten on with Basthesda games in the past so will also be waiting for a cheap version (or see how my eldest gets on with it as he's bound to buy it).

    /pans over games they've made
/abruptly cuts before you see the full Fallout 76 box

It looks beautiful, doubt I'll be able to play it well without a 'proper' desktop PC.
    The score is very Bethesda!

    Re: Starfield

It looks fantastic, but being Bethesda, it'll probably be six months to a year post launch before it's relatively bug-free & playable

The deal-breaker for me (other than the price of new AAA games), is the lack of co-op. A shame, really.

    Re: Starfield

The SSD requirement is not surprising if you look at Fallout 4 - it is one of the games where an SSD makes a big difference to loading times and Starfield has much larger maps so it is probably down to asset streaming IMHO.

Also if you build large settlements in Fallout 4,an SSD makes a noticeable difference compared to using an HDD,as it reduces stutter noticeably and Starfield has base building too. In an extreme example,my Fallout 4 install with a lot of settlement mods and large settlements was actually unplayable on an HDD and it was the first game I fully migrated over to an SSD.

But considering a 2TB higher end PCI-E 4.0 TLC SSD with NAND is now closer to £100,and QLC drives are even cheaper,I think it's too concerning you need an SSD. My bigger concern is going to be VRAM.

The Fallout 76 soundtrack is probably the best part of the game.

    Re: Starfield

They've just published the background lore of historical events in the Starfield universe - towards the end of this page: https://bethesda.net/en/game/starfield

Reminds me of the early Origin (Chris Roberts) games where we used to get similar timelines.
