    Playstation 3 Unveiled!

    Full Story Here

Looks like Sony just spiked Microsoft's Gun - the PS3 is fully backwards compatible with previous playstation games, supports up to 7 controllers wirelessly via bluetooth 2, does away with expensive proprietry memory cards in favour of industry standard SD/Memory Stick Duo/Compactflash cards, will accept an additional 2.5" HDD for downloadable content etc, sports dual HDMI ports as well as the standard Playstation Audio/Video Connector, and supports full HDTV up to 1080p.

Games are apparently much easier to code than the previous Playstations, so should prevent the headaches that gave coders nightmares before..

Of course, it's now down to availability, price, and the quality of games, but with the upgrade path for the millions of existing PS2 owners smoothed over with full backwards compatibility (Leaving the XBOX 360 the only one of the "next-gen" consoles that isn't compatible with previous generations..), it looks like Microsoft's plans for world domination just got a LOT harder.

PS3 is fully backwards compatible with previous playstation games - Ill give them a point for that
does away with expensive proprietry memory cards in favour of industry standard SD/Memory Stick Duo/Compactflash cards - Another point but with a HDD who cares?
will accept an additional 2.5" HDD for downloadable content etc - Nothing new
supports full HDTV up to 1080p - Same as the other next gens
Leaving the XBOX 360 the only one of the "next-gen" consoles that isn't compatible with previous generations.. - Well thats not true, the xbox is fully backward compatible aslong as you got the HDD.

Also points to stick up for Xbox360 is the media side of everything, connectivily to XP for media streaming and the fact xbox live is already huge.

End of the day both consoles are gonig to sport the same games except for the odd exclusive that will prob be out on PC anyway (Revolution being different as its nintendo and they have ALOT of very good exclusive stuff) and its going to be down to which company you prefere and i hate sony.

The memory sticks are actually a big plus, especially if you don't have the HDD, connectivity for cameras etc is a big part of the whole media entertainment system..

The XBOX 360 still isn't backwards compatible out of the box, so therefore it's an additional outlay, and something you will have to factor in.

You might as well add those stuck up points for the PS3 as well, as network gaming is already pretty huge on the PS2 and is only set to get bigger on the PS3, as for media capabilities, the feature set apparently goes beyond what was done with the PSX system (full details haven't arrived yet)..

Basically it looks as though Sony have an answer to everything Microsoft has in the 360, which should make it a VERY interesting fight

it looks realy sick and the fact that i cn play my ps2 games on it is cool. i may opt to buy both of them when they arrive but ps3 option 2 read almost every single type of cd media, dvdr, cds etc.. is amazing. hpowever xbox 360 looks the buisness also.

i will agree that from what i have seen and heard. their is no clear winner on which system is better.....

Interesting that it doesn't seem to have a case/psu fan like the PS2.

It uses a PC style power cable rather than the old syle power cable.
Surely the pads aren't going to have dual shock if they are wireless. (I always turn it off though)

    This bit somewhat confuses me
    " Ethernet (10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, 1000BASE-T) x 3 (input x 1 + output x 2)"

How can you have Network ports that aren't duplex?

Sony also appear to have dropped Firewire i.Link :/ hmmm

The tech specs of the PS3 vs XboX360 are so different I don't know how you can compare them. I wonder how the PS3 3.2 Cube chip will stack up against the 3 3ghz chips the Xbox will pack.

ah yeah maybe theymeant it as in Uplink port.

I think I'll be going Xbox360 after being a loyal PS man I'm just fed up of sequels and my PS2 has been hardly touched for the last 3 years.
