    Gaming headphones?

More and more games seem to be using VOIP and so I think it's time I invested in a pair of headphones with a microphone.

Ideally I'd like a pair that give a detailed sound with good spatial qualities. I was looking at a pair of Sennheiser ones which looked great but they were £130! Does anyone have any suggestions on a good pair of gaming headphones in the £20-40 price range?

    Thanks.

I use the Logitech USB 20 headset for VoIP applications and because its USB it installs its own sound devices so you can have music etc over your speakers and the VoIP on the headset without any interference or issues

    Medusa 5.1 ftw!

I've been through about 5 pairs of different brands of headphone/microphone combos and nothing comes close to them.

Try play.com, they probably still sell them cheapest.

Another vote for the 5.1 Medussa's here. Due to selling my herc game theater xp I moved to an audigy 2 (worst move ever but thats a different story) So without the rack I could either have the speakers or the headphones with mic. Dumped the old Plantronics LS1's and got a pair of these, best 5.1 headphones I have ever used.

And if you want to save money on a soundcard, get the usb version, forget about creative and their crap drivers and crap sound quality, these headphones match the quality in sound I experienced when I dumped creative and moved to hercules.

Would you say that they're better than the Sennheiser PC150s?

I would say so as the Sennheiser doesn't look to be 5.1 surround sound, the Medussa's are.

£33.95 from a few places for the USB versions and the buuilt in sound hardware is spot on, saves faffing on with cables and soundcard settings

I got the Seinheisser PC130's myself - its £22.99 at Play.com I think, and I think they are fantastic - the PC150's are probably undoubtably better but I didn't want to spend too much on a headset myself. I ended up using the headset more than my speakers though!

I've got a logitech one, was about £15 on Amazon. Great for TS, and even music.

The reason the wired ones are more expensive is that they come with a breakout box/aamp so you can run the amp/breakout for 5.1 from the soundcard then the headphones to the breakout box. With the USB ones its all in the volume control unit so the headphones act on their own as a usb headset with no other sound devices requuired.

Just ordered me some of these, hopefully the quality issues that some experienced have been ironed out now.

I love my PC150s, not that bothered about surround sound headphones - if I want 5.1, I use my 5.1 speakers.
