Can you play a game too much?

Just wondering what your opinion is on this, i seem to be playing a game a heck of a lot the last few months, it just seems it has got to the point where i have no social life at all and all i do is sit inside playing it..................

So do you feel you can play a game too much, or is it the more you play the merrier?

Yes, you can play too much. I play in moderation, otherwise it can not only ruin a game but your social life. Although, the most hardcore of gamers often don't have much of a social life so there question would be 'Can you not play a game too much?'

If you play too much you can alienate real world people.

I love games. I really love games. But Yes, you can play too much. And you can usually tell the people who do from those who don't a mile of. Something i have been thinking about quite a bit about recently.

It's exactly why I don't play games like MMORPG's and don't cry too much over not being able to get broadband where I live. I used to be a mad Tribes 2 player. Spent night after night, day after day playing lader games and was an admin for the now dead Netgamesuk. I lost a girlfriend over it (well it was a bit more complicated, but basically the gaming played a big role). Looking back, i was lucky to have one at all and now really.

It's physically unheathly and destroys you social life when not properly moderated. And before any teenage nerd say's 'my friends are online' - that does not count compared to real human interaction. We need hunman interaction in order to stay ballanced and truely happy. It's especially important for younger kids. When i have kids, i would not let them spend all thier time on a PC. Anyone who disagrees is in denial. I think it's important to learn social skills before anything else. They are also less likely to become a nuisance online for it. There is a very fine line between having a hobby and an obsession. At least hackers are learning a skill, even if they are usually the type of people i really like to avoid whenever posible.

But i think most people in the computing world are very social. I know many software and web developers and they are some of the most social people i know. So i think people who like computers do a certain stigma attached to them which is very unfair.

Just think about if someone just sat there and watched DVD's all day and night. It's pretty much the same thing.

Last summer, I played Final Fantasy X for 75 hours over the course of two weeks. I as so sick of gaming afterward that I avoided video games for months.

I've never been an adictive gamer, not aqs much as i am adicted to looking at forums and going on msn, but thats my main way of talking to my mates. Now its the summer, i think some serious gaming is in order. HL2 to compleat, Guildwars and i got lego starwars and Farcry today.
