I like both but I'd have to say Quake.

My PC ran it pretty well and it was a damn good game but when I got a 3DFX Voodoo when they first came out my jam dropped to the floor, the graphics were amazing (for the time of course).

Plus I loved the multi-player mod, can't remeber what it was called, where you could pick up a can of beans and kept farting

What was the mod that gave you a multi player game with aircraft as well ?.

Quake, because it ha the atmosphere. Quake 2 didn't have the same appeal since it wasn't all gothicy and scary.

But yeah, it was sexual with 2 Voodoo 2's.. I remember having a Voodoo2 a week before their proper release and after 5 minutes writing a cheque for £220 there and then... Only to do the same a few months later for SLI!

Quake had amazing amosphere.. I still love the bridges and the bouncy lighting of grenades. It was also harder (IMO).

Quake 2 wouldn't have beaten it in my vote... except for those nippy voodoos. I used to play it without, then got my first voodoo 2 card for 20 quid and once I got it working my jaw dropped with the frame rate and graphics.

And then there's the co-op - a group of three of us had some great lan fests with it.

I view Quake 2 as more the Quake universe. Quake was basically Doom done in 3d

I always found the great thing about Quake games wasn't the actual game, but all the mods you could get for it.

Quake 1 (aka QuakeWorld) has Team Fortress. All the current crop of team-based games have their roots in this game - two teams, you can select different classes (solider/spy/engineer/medic/scout/sniper/etc) and have an objective based on the map. Some maps were capture the flag, some were hold points on a map and others were just bizarre. It was also probably the first game to use location-based damage. I spent my youth playing this mod and loved every minute of it.

Quake 2 has Action Quake though. Again, it's team-based and you can select from a number of different weapons and items before each round. No capture the flag this time but it was the first game I played where you stayed dead until the end of the round - last team standing wins. The weapon were inspired and the ability to kick someone off a tall building was very satisfying.

    Quake 1 wins for me.

It's a close run thing, but Quake 2 gets it. Loved both games, but I spent more time on 2's multiplayer, so that edged it for it.

I enjoyed Quake 1 a hell of a lot when it was first about (AMD K5 anyone?) and it's still one of the only games on my PC to this day (well, GL quake by now)

Quake 2.... started off as the lessor version of Quake for me (except it was less bloody brown!), but grew far more over time with some bloody fantastic additions. Now trying out some of the new ports for it (mainly so the GeFarce gets the colours as right on as glide mode).

    erm

    errr

Overall, Q2 for me, but I love Q1 aswell. Can't stand Q3 though..... worst elements fo both games.

Voted for Q1 because it was losing and the only way im gonna be happy is if this thing is a draw.

I liked them both, but I picked Quake 2 for this poll. I remember playing Quake 1 multiplayer over 56k with friends when I was 14. That rocked, but I thought Quake 2 was a better game and also had some mad multiplayer bouts.

To be totally honest though, I like Quake 3 better than any multiplayer game to this day.
