Shame the 360 doenst really make it to the Home Media Center. I recon to make the 360 a media center it needs.

    - Bigger Harddrive
    - Remote control thats bundled
    - Web Browser, which will
    - The ability stream anything you can watch in windows media player.

The idear of having a boc under your TV that you cana not only play games off, but stream content onto your Home Cinimar, now that sounds a little better, and i know there are things out there that will do it. But microsoft have the software, and with the 360 they easily have the hardware at the right price.. Like everything micorsoft do, its just too half assed to be really good.

Just shows Sony have money to spend

Does the 360 have an Intel proc?

Also from a asthetics/ergonomics point of veiw the PS3 looks very appealing

A lot fewer, actually. I was at a staff meeting at work and we were discussing brand equity. They had a graph showing brand values. It was not surprising to me to see that over the last 3 years, Samsung's brand value had increased significantly while Sony's had declined sharply over the same period.

    FYI

Sony main money maker is it's banking division, surprising is it . But it's true that although the brand value has declined, it's still very strong. The PS3 will, i guess, has strong support from the Japan market, which is huge, and very loyal to domestic products.

Yeah, but with consoles, it's all about the games, not like PCs.

    Ramedge,

For someone with such a passionate view i'm suprised by the lack of information you've got about the actual products. X360 has 3 * 3.2Ghz IBM Power PC's as its processors.

The PS3 hasn't got 3 processors but 1 Processor and 6 DSP (Digitial signal processors). This level of control to deal with DSP's for things like sound require a much greater level of understanding and while the PS2 might have the best games now in your opinion, there is no guarentee that it will continue to do so, as those great games may now take an awful lot longer to code.

You may think that FPS games should be played on PC's (I quite agree with you), but Halo1/2 (and 3 when it arrives), Perfect Dark Zero, are all very popular and very enjoyable.

Luke is right when it says that MS has far more marketing muscle than Sony. Sony recently reported very poor figures, which has knocked confidence in the company, Sony still sell a large amount of consumer products, and has a large selection of Sony fan boys.
But Sony as a company are under immense financial pressure from all sectors, they don't own any LCD or Plasma market,, They are under fire with I-Pod and various other audio technologies.

X360 to me is a MS flagship product, its dedicated to doing a global launch, its here shortly and its got peoples attention. IS PS3 really a flagship product for Sony?, if so why the delays.

BUT PS2's online capability is utter poo compared to Xbox Live, I can have one account and see what all my online friends are playing, not have dozens of different accounts and not be able to see anything else other than the game i'm playing.

Last but not least, I'd say MS are the strongest manufacturer. As with all MS products, avoid version 1, but buy into version 2 as with most MS ventures into the market Version 2 is what becomes the market standard.

Here's the thing. The PS3 in Japan is out a few weeks after the 360 and with Sony jsut announcing they are removing the region coding for them aka like the PSP you can get a PS3 a lot sooner than everyone thought

IMO It wont really make much of a difference... if you think about how many of both of these units are still selling quite well =\ in the long run they are still goin to sell millions of both of them, just coz one was released early wouldnt mean that people are not goin to buy it at one point in the future ^ ^

Indeed Mike look at sony Japan (will need a translator for it)

As Kaine said, they both have their fans now so no matter if it came out a year later the PS3 will still fly off the shelves.

I didn't think the hardware was anywhere near ready!

    Wow...

The PS3 will still fly off the shelves. No doubt it will sell several million, but the vast majority of purcahses doesn't come from hardcore fans, it's the general public. My gut feeling is that the X360 is going to "win" this round, but there's no way I'd bet on it without knowing the full information of what the PS3 is going to cost/how it's going to perform.

    Naa Sony clarified this recently.

Last official announcement to the stock market was March 2006. (to japan)

March being the first month of spring

    TiG,

Yeah, that's all the info I could find that was officially from Sony.

To be honest, I'd be wary of anything that wasn't published directly by Sony... and I'm sure that they'd be the first to make a big load of noise about a release date.

Last I heard, which was a while ago admittedly, was that March 2006 will see Sony launch in Japan, but at the time I was told this there was a certain amount of scepticism over whether the PS3 would be ready in significant numbers to have a succesful launch.

For sure, any new console launch will sell out unless you've got literally MILLIONS of untis in stock, but that'll never be the case for obvious economic reasons. The concern was whether Sony would have enough to even satisfy the 'que up for three days outside the store' fanatics.

I think as we go into next year, say around mid-January, thats when we'll start to hear loads more from Sony about the PS3; launch titles, capapbilities, release dates etc etc.
