Spud1, you are a Ninty fanboy AICM5P.

Theres virtually nothing unique about the 360/ps3, all their best games are on other formats (pc mainly) or will be at some point in the future. certainly nothing worth wasting money on, whereas the revolution offers what could potentially be a totally new gaming experience, and a giant step forward towards total immersion gaming (mainly with the new motion sensitive control system, that you can also hold one handed).
Im not excited by fifa 2006, big bmx bikes XII, WWE XX etc etc, or by halo 3 for example (never liked the halo series, and anyway you can jsut wait a while for the superior PC version if you do like it), I have Final Fantasy with a vengence, Racing games...well I like some of them but the best ones are on the PC or (atm) cube.., fighting? well tekken is a Playstation game that i love true enough, but Soul calibre/Mortal combat were both on the cube..Resident evil? Surely every resident evil fan knows the best one was released on..oh wait, the gamecube.
For me theres no reason to get a 360 or PS3, I have a PC, a gamecube, an old PSX for the odd game you couldnt get on other formats (mainly the tekken series tbh) and when it arrives (and assuming the concept is as good in real life as it looks in previews) i will get a revolution.
So yes, I may be a ninty fanboy, but with good reasonsI havn't even started on the sheer number of nintendo unique, amazingly engrossing/entertaining games that have come out of the big N and their consoles - You're probably all looking forward to Perfect Dark Zero (from rare), well without nintendo Perfect Dark would never have been released in its original incarnation on the N64, it might have been a PSX game (which would have been horrible you must agree, shocking gfx/sound/controls in comparison for an FPS) and you might have never got the chance..In fact that is the only reason i would consider a 360, as despite rare crossing over to the 'dark side' so to speak (and thus robbing nintendo of a great deal of sucess with the gamecube, if the cube had had continued versions of such classics as Perfect dark and Banjo-kazooie it could have been a much bigger hit) They still make excellent games.
ahem, rant over
EDIT: ok so AICM5P means 'and i claim my 5 pounds' WTF? makes no sense..*cough*
Yeah sorry, a throwback to my CIX conferencing days!Originally Posted by Spud1

I'll wait until we se the finished product though - it might sound revoloutinary on paper, but that means diddlysquat.
Oh really? Project Gotham Racing? Halo 3 (or 2?)? Kameo? I don't think so. They're just launch titles too. There were plenty of xbox-exclusive titles as well.Originally Posted by Spud1
Wrong, matey. The original Halo was only released on PC as almost a token effort, given the fact that the game began life on the PC. Whether it was superior or not is debatable - as I remember it was one of the first games to utilise pixel shader 2.0 effects, and as such was a game that was largely unplayable on all but the most powerful of PCs. I can hardly see Bunjie converting any of the other Halo games to PC.Originally Posted by Spud1
Fighting games have always ruled on the consoles (don't really know why that is reallyy! It's not like the PC couldn't handle it! I'm no fan of survival horror games, so no loss there either.

Meh i did write a big paragraph here again but I decided that was going far too off topic so heres a summary
I too mainly go by the games rather than the hardware, and i love the classic ninty-unique games, and if you want them you need a ninty console.
However i also love FPS and RTS games, and the current controllers (ie pads) just don't work well for these genre of games. A gamepad, no matter how much of it is 'analogue' is just not going to match a kb/mouse combo for accuracy and fluidity (hence why the majority of console FPS's use auto-aim heavily..)
This is where the revolution comes in (in theory). It takes away the slow, cumbersome method of looking around by making it fully motion sensitive, essentially you move your hand and your view shifts, making it possibly to get mouse like accuracy on a console. This is what really interests me, the possibility of playing a proper fps with a controller like that is really appealingIt's also something that will be totally unique (like nintys own games). So in short I will wait for the rev, and ignore the 360 and ps3..for now.
Hmm bit more than a summary but at least it is more on-topic ;P
Oh they're definitely out there!Originally Posted by TiG

^ interesting read.
Cheapest i saw was $12K!!!! but from what i can see they are all expected next year for the most part.
Plasma display panels (PDPs) offering 1080p resolutions are available now. LG has announced the immediate availability of their 71-inch MW-71PY10. An LG representative quoted us a price of $75,000 (MSRP). Yup, 75 large.
The above being the only one i could see available now...
OUCH at that price...

All I know is the shop had a very very big (60-70"?) flatscreen TV hooked up to some proprietary thing delivering some HD content and it looked fantastic even when you were close up within a few feet (far too close for a tv that size anyway!). You're right, I think it was nearer 10 grand, but it was still ...wow
and I suppose for ~£670 this practically counts at 24" and 1920x1200 ... just need the HDMI input, though DVI-D isn't that bad...![]()
BTW, I hate being right in these cases, but I've said it a million times all over the internet--DON'T GET FIRST GEN HARDWARE!
http://games.slashdot.org/article.pl...38200&from=rss
There is nothing wrong in buying first gen hardware at all. I have owned PS1,Saturn, N64,Dreamcast, PS2, Xbox and GC all first gen and all run fine with no problems ever. In fact my PS1 is still being used today by a friend, and that is 10 years old.Originally Posted by smtkr
The problem with people posting "my 360 crashed" is that it will get lots of publicity, but it may only effect a very small percentage. But you won't hear from the 99% of people who have no problems whatsoever. All i say is don't believe the hype.

Instead I picked up a 360 and have been enjoying it since (in my spare time ofcourse) and since I don't game on PCs I've been able to enjoy NFS:MW and quite a few other titles, but yes - none of the 360 games have been able to really suck me in. Saints Row is probably the closest (today I was playing the drug running mission, loads of fun!) - but that's about to change with NFS:Carbon/Gears of War/MRVL: Unlimit. Alliance...
And I've now got a Wii on pre-order, why? Cause I loved the Cube and Zelda Twilight Princes is gonna be fantastic and Red Steel even looks hot. These are gonna keep me quite busy right into 2007 by which time The PS3 might either miss its launch date or get delayed. Either way I'll eventually pick one up, but as I said earlier I don't see MGS4 justifying £550; I'll maybe consider it once it drops in price.
It would be silly to say 'the cats great, the pigeons sucks' or vice/versa. As someone mentioned earlier, if you want to enjoy some decent games *now* get the 360/Wii and get the PS3 later - but if you skip both, what will you be playing this Christmas?
Holy Thread Revival Batman!
But, actually, re-visiting this now is quite cool, we know a lot more about all the consoles than we did back in 2005...
Oh, and if anyone is interested, let HEXUS know you're thoughts by voting in the new poll on the front of HEXUS.gaming... we want to know what consoles you're going to get!
