Need a new gaming headset, any sugestions?

Well, my old pair of plantronics are finally dying, so Im looking to replace them with a new set, but I got a few questions...

Are 5.1 heasets really needed, or will a good stereo pair be more than ample?

I dont have a 5.1 card at the moment (I still run from onboard on an Asus K8V Deluxe, which seems quite good for onboard), so I need to know that if 5.1 is better, what 5.1 card is worth getting, to use with them?

If stereo headsets are fine, what do you recommend? obviously they gonna be worn for rather extended periods of time, used for voice comms etc. (Teamspeak and ventrillo aswell as ingame voice comms) so need good clarity and a decent mic.

Any suggestions?

I was looking at the Sennheiser PC150's or PC160's (Dont see the point in the PC160SK's, they just seem to be normal 160's with SKs name splattered all over them), but am open to other suggestions.

Cheers

I personally have a sennheiser headset that goes round the back of your neck, rather than across the top of the head, which i find a bit more comfortable. That would be my recommendation as they have withstood 2 years of abuse by me and still work

I have a pair of sennheiser fold up over head headphones http://www.sennheiser.com/sennheiser...nsf/root/05206
which are awesome, really cheap from Richer Sounds, awesome sound for your money, plus they fold up like a pair of glasses - genius. The big ones that fit over your ears just exclude EVERYTHING, which I don't like cos I use mine to listen to my MP3 player too and don't wanna not be able to hear anything at all other than the music - it's just dangerous!

For sound quality you cannot fault sennheiser, however it really depends on how much you are prepared to spend the PC130, arent particulary comfy but the pc160's are with their larger more comfortable ear pieces, they also sound better aswell with a more defined bass and crisper high notes the pc130 seems to centre around the mids, but generally speaking any sennheiser headsets will last you a long time, i have a pair of hd25's for djaying and they have so far lasted me 2 years and still going strong.

If its purely for gaming try the Medussa 5.1 headset Great sound, bass levels are fantastic and they are only about £40 these days I dumped my soundcard years back and bought the USB version of the headset, never looked back

the ones from edimensional have been used everyday for about 16 months on CSS and there are no signs of wear or any discomfort annoyance. Sound quality is great, mic is excellent for in game communication and Skype, encapsulation cuts off all external sound - rumble is not used though.

another vote for the medusa's - my creative speakers basically haven't been switched on since i got my set. i've got the £40 non-usb set and very impressed all round. love the amp box and how it intergrates with your exisiting soundcard/speaker set-up. only thing to be careful of is that it is very sensitive to electrical interference..
