Well that should be all you need - are you sure that the access point is working? Ie. Have you successfully connected to it? You say it doesnt work, but do you mean that you cant 'see' your wireless network at all, or just that it wont consistently connect?

When it tried the setup, it recognied the ID of my network, i stuck in the password key and it did connect, had a play around on Opera, but i have to say that i cant get a connection all the time (Which can be put down to the crap signal in my room).

But as long as your AP is working and you arent miles away from it then it should work ok

Do you have any other wirless devised hooked up to your wirelss access point?

IF your access point is set up correctly then there should be no problems.

One thing to note is that Nintendo advise if you are getting slow speeds on the net to change your wireless channel to 1 or 11. i did this and the connection sped up big style

Have you checked you access point is working with other hardware? Have you tried changing the Wireless Access Points channel?

Also you must ensure that the security on your default router allows the wireless point access to the internet, check the MAC Address security and also the WPA (or WEP) settings are correct.

I must admit I have never seen this setup before but there is no reason why it won't work. My Wii just asked which network and then for the WPA key and everything else it did itself.

    Wow, quick replies!

    Hi Guys

Sorry, I should have said that I've got a wireless media player which works with this set-up, so the wireless connection is definitley working.

I search for wireless networks, and it finds mine (which uses WEP) and the neighbours (which is unlocked, must tell him!)

I entered the correct WEP key and then it tries the connection test. It comes back with an error code (52030). I checked my DHCP server and the Wii didn't even try to get an IP address, so I hard coded a suitable IP address, mask and gateway. I also hard coded the DNS entries and tried again. This then gave me a slightly different error code (52130), and that's as far as I get. I've disabled WEP on the access point and tested again with the same result.

I think I'll be investing in the USB to RJ45 adaptor when that comes out (which should be very soon) as I've got a little 10/100 switch close to the Wii which i can use.

I would try switching the wireless channel to 11 on the router, seems to fix most peoples problems with that error code.

I was getting error codes when I was trying to get mine connected (via the Nintendo USB WiFi dongle) I did a quick search and found the nintendo wifi site which has a page which if you type in the error code it will give you a translation.

Incidentally, I updated the drivers for the dongle and it allowed me to connect so I'm happy.

Intersting tip - I had presumed that the connectivity problems were down to my Wifi signal strength, but maybe I'll give that a try too to see if it makes a difference.

Depends what is in your house and even in you computer where the wireless NIC/dongle is. But yes 11 and 1 are the best channels, channel 5 & 6 is a no go if you have a microwave oven. Quite a few channels are interfered with by cordless landline phones too.

Also USB dongles are not really the best especially for gaming as they do not hold a steady connection for long periods.

Tell you what, you'd better hope nothing breaks, I've not been able to even get through to the Nintendo help line today, always engaged. I'm not gonna wait 45 minutes just to have them tell me to send my Wiimote somewhere either.

£3.60 just to talk to someone about a faulty product is not a good situation and I'm starting to get frustrated about it, at least the 360 support line is FREE (admittedly it is staffed in India).

Blame the media here, Spreading the sensationalised rubbish about the wiimote straps breaking..it has caused almost every wii owner under the sun to call Nintendo about it, so I expect that is why the lines are jammed. Once people get their replacements (or realise that a tiny bit of common sense prevents all the 'problems') the lines should be less busy

I'll blame Nintendo for using the same helpline for everything including the Wiistrap replacement scheme, that should really be only available via fax, email or post its not exactly going to stop you from using the console.

Well, that made no difference at all.

I've tried getting one of the compatable USB-ethernet adaptors but all the places that sell them are in the States and won't ship to the UK! Does anyone know when the official Nintendo USB-Ethernet adaptor is coming out in the UK? I've got a 10/100 switch sitting about 2 feet away from the Wii, so I'm going to forget wireless for now and go wired, as soon as I can.

I finally got hold of Ninny to report my warranty issue with the Wiimote. It took me 2 weeks to get through to them and 5 unread emails.

Spoke to Simone, who has told me they have 4 staff on in total for the uk for ALL warranty claims, whether DS/GC/Wii/Accessories/Games etc. Apparantly they are very busy, well theres a suprise, 170k Wiis + god knows how many DSes sold in the UK and 4 staff!

They don't give any RMA or reference number for returns, so I can already see where this is heading, send it back (with no reference number) and have to send 5 unread emails and call them constantly for 2 weeks to even get put on hold for them to not be able to give me any information because they have no way of tracking that return. Supposedly they take up to 2 weeks to even look at it and a further 2 weeks to get it back to me.

They have also said they will not replace it without my original receipt - not a photocopy - noway am I sending that, and to be honest the product got to be under a month old hasn't it, why the need for a receipt?

The line manager or any of the company directors apparantly do not have an email addresses for me to write to them to complain about the situation.

I am so angry, frustrated and appalled by this its put me off buying anything else from Nintendo ever again, period.
I'm now 99.0% my Wii will be on ebay by 5:30pm tonight without the Wiimote.

Be warned, if anything for your Wii breaks you're gonna have fun.
