    Supreme Commander beta & demo

Anyone out there got/played the SupCom beta?
A guy from work has it on his lappy and showed me yesterday: looks really good, the zooming is well done and queuing orders etc... looks like you should be able to pick up the basics quite quickly if you have ever played TA..

missed out on the beta but its out in two weeks and only £18 at blah! tempted to put in a preorder, but want to see official reviews first.

Who else will be getting this when it comes out?

dont see the point of pre-ordering. but having played the beta i can say that i wont be needing to wait for a review to splash the money. especially at £18. bargain

I'll probably get it when it comes out. I've been playing the beta and it is good fun to zoom out and get a real scope of what is going on. Makes me wish dawn of war had that function. You don't realise how useful it is until you go back to a regular RTS and something is missing. The only downside, for me atleast, is getting used to building units and buildings on a rate basis instead of in one go. e.g. in most RTS games you need so much resource before you can buy or build something, with this game you can do what you want regardless of cost because it takes it at a rate. So you may only have 100 mass and what you want costs 500 but takes it at a rate of 10 aslong as you're producing mass at a rate of 10 or more you'll be fine.

Thanks for the £18 find! How can they afford to undercut by that much?
I'll probably end up getting this and CnC3.
Only thing that's stopped me so far is that I don't get all that much PC time these days.
But for that price, I'd get enough value out of it.

Yeah those prices are crazy.. I just used http://www.gamestracker.co.uk to find the lowest price.

I don't get much time to play games these days, only just managed to finish HL Episode 1 this weekend! But might have to make an exception considering how much I loved TA..

Its SupCom, so ofc I have to buy it, as does any self respecting PC gamer

I missed out on the beta, but from what i've seen in videos, previews and screenshots it does look like a brilliant game..heres hoping it plays as good as it looks.

And idea of the recommended speifications for this? Tell me they are not the usual insane levels.

Am getting a new graphics card in March when the next level of mid-high range cards come out.

As for the game will get regardless of reviews methinks, previous pedigree and previews suggest it is worth the money.

TA was pretty much, as well as red alert the pinnacle of the genre tho.. if someone said that westwood as they were were going to bring red alert up to date then C&C3, even from what iv seen would be a joke.

Ive pre-ordered from play. Been looking forward to SC for a long time, it looks awesome.

It seems pretty demanding. Going from guys who have payed the beta, when you have 3 A.I teams all with lots of units, the game can get sluggish, even on a Core 2 Duo, 2GB and a X1900 rig.

The 2 screen feature is great and should be used in all rts games from now on.

I really think its a game designed for hardcore rts players though seems tough to get into for casual players of the genre.
