    HD DVD on the highstreet??

    Evening all,

Does anyone know when HD DVD is going to hit the highstreet properly. Last few trips up nottingham have yielded nothing in all the major stores.. HMV, Virgin etc?

I keep looking on play.com but they never seem to have anything new, I dont know if this is a UK release thing or not as there seems to be a shed load of titles out in the states.

Region 1 isnt really an option either as I have the xbox360 addon and as such I dare say its hardcoded to region 2 forever :-(

Any other sites I should be lookng at for HD DVDs??

    Peace!

just to let you know i have a 360 hd-dvd drive and they are not region locked for hd-dvd's, they are for dvds, but not hd-dvds (at the moment at least) i have three american hd-dvds and they play fine.

Have you tried asking at HMV, as i had to ask at my local one and they had a pile hidden away behind the counter.

Seen a slightly expanding pile of BR and HD discs at HMV in the Metro Centre Gateshead the last few times I've been in, so I'd guess they're starting to filter through to normal people now.

Don't know how many more times I'd have to buy Serenity though.... it might get tedious a 4th time!

    www.axelmusic.com

Probably the best place in terms of choice. Also if you go onto Amazon UK and list HD DVDs by price, there are a lot of American stores who sell via the UK marketplace so most HDDVDs can be had for ~£12. I've got Unforgiven on the way from there so I'll see how it goes

Its defo coming because the price of DVDs is so low...what I would liek to have had all along and tbh what they are really worth. Boxed sets at £60 pffft!

Anyway yeah my local HMV has HD-DVD not sure about Blu-Ray though.

want to know what i want?

in yankland, you can download HD movie rentals for £4 or less apiece from xbox live marketplace

i reckon that's a price i could live with, to see the HD version of a movie

example titles: v for vendetta, poseidon. nothing worth really paying >£20 for on hd-dvd, but worth watching for £4 to test that nice hdtv you spent money on

Its annoying that we don't yet have that facility over here. However how much space would the movie take up on the 20 gig hard drive? I'm a bit strapped for space

Not much; because to keep file size low, they scale them down to SD.

Is that true?? No region coding on XBOX360 HD DVD player?!? I never knew that.. Looks like I'll be getting my self some american titles then.

Wonder why no store in Nottingham centre has HDDVD or BR then.. How bizare is that. Quite a big retail area.

So, alternative places for imports other than amazon. I like to shop around ) ??

KBee, Will be watching on XBOX360 HD addon.

Yeah since there's no region coding, the best place to get from is actually the USA... DVD Pacific is one of the cheapest.
