That's the upshot. Sky Sports and Sky Movies are unaffected, apparently, but channels that are part of the Sky Basics package are stuffed.

If i was still down in London with cable I wouldnt have it anymore if Skyone was dropped form the chans... its one of the only channels I watch

Going on my very limited knowledge here I would have thought that Sky have the rights to most of the programming on Sky one and their other Sky branded channels, so its not as easy as that for virgin to setup a sky one like channel. Particularly if they want similar programming. Setting up their own channel would also be much more costly (getting the rights to air programs, running the channel etc) than it is for them to simply pay sky to do the work for them in essence. The problem is that they are (going on assumptions here) being ripped off by sky to do this.

Personally, I have to say that while I would REALLY like Virgin to retain Sky One, I'm really reluctant to reward Sky for their arm-twisting by switching providers. I just don't think that encourages good business practices, and it sure as hell doesn't do the consumer any good in the long run.

2 = cheaper "standard" account - wihtout sky and xtra money

I'm thinking the same...I still want Sky 1 but if I switch that's just giving them what they want and proving that bully tactics work, which isn't fair.

i must be weird. the only things i watch on Sky One (it's usually available offshore) are The Simpsons and Futurama.

-Dresden Files (just started watching and it seems interesting),

(I missed most of season 2 of Lost and want to watch that before season 3 - so that means I've got to get the DVD's)

-Heroes
-Witchblade (when it's repeated - why can't they just release the DVD's )

Couldn't agree more. I'd sooner lose Sky1 than move to a company that behaved like this.
