He lives in a big house yes, and to us this seems extravagent. But in the circles he moves in, and the kind of people we allow ourselfs to be led by it's almost essential. Could you imagine him being taken seriously or having any clout if he lived in a typical family home out in the suburbs?

No, he's not; he's just asking people to take steps to reduce or negate their carbon footprint. In his case, his house is big; he attempts to limit power consumption and purchases carbon offsets.

Using the purchasing carbon offsets arguments, I should buy a Dodge Chrager and purchase a carbon offset. Thats going to really reduce emmissions.

All of this carbon offset stuff is rubbish anyway. Global warming may be caused by man. It may not, but overall it is a change we cannot control. People should be controlling their energy usage instead.
