Job Websites (related to IT)

Hi everyone

I'm after people's opinions/choices in regards to websites that advertise jobs in IT. I've been in a crap job now for 9 months and need to move on before I go mad, I spend most of my time trawling...

www.jobserve.com
www.reed.co.uk

... I'm aware of www.cwjobs.co.uk as well, however, they seem to just have a small subset of the jobs advertised on the two above.

I've given up on Monster as they have sweet f.a. on there (I'm presuming that they're big in the USA though ?). I'm also presuming that job agencies are pretty much a thing of the past as they all post their vacancies on these sites now anyhow ?.

Local papers are out of the window as well as it seems like most businesses, even SMB's, just place their vacancies straight onto Jobserve etc. as it's cheap and easy for them.

Also if it makes any difference I live in Hampshire (north, Basingstoke etc.) but as I mentioned above I believe that local job agencies are now pretty pointless.

the only other one I can think of is www.jobsite.co.uk

pretty much every job I've had since 1999 has come from either cwjobs ,jobserve or jobsite.

I found CWjobs to be great for what I was looking for.

Depends what kinda job you wanna go into really.

I have got 2 jobs via cwjobs and alot of agencys seem to look for CV's on there.

monster.co.uk is worth putting your cv on as I've had a few calls from there as well.

Just put your CV on every site you can as some employers look for CV's rather than paying to advertise the job it's self.

But its important to note many agencies will not contact you if your CV is more than 3 months old (ie been posted more than 3 months).

Some however will continue to contact (cold call?) for up to a year after. I now have a policy of not answering withheld numbers on my personal phone, they can leave a message. No one important hides their number.

www.jobsite.co.uk comes up with some odd results on searches local to a town city, half of the jobs seem to be on the other side of the country

GeorgeTuk, thanks for the advice about re-uploading your CV every few months so that it appears that it's 'new', top tip.

It also looks like I need to visit www.cwjobs.co.uk more regularly than I currently do.

I found their daily mail was quite 'tuneable' to only send me new jobs in my area , relevant (ish) to my skills on a daily basis.

I've used all the above and get daily emails from them with new jobs.

Total Jobs is another I use, but stay away from Monster, every week I get a summary email from them, and none of the jobs on it are either remotely linked to IT.

I wouldn't discount agencies out of hand. I work for a large IT company and we often use agencies to recruit. They aren't our only source of course, and they can be a real PITA, but they do turn up gems sometimes..

Register with Rullion http://www.rullion.co.uk - quite a good agency - had a few interviews via them over the years.

I think I've only ever been offered 1 job direct from an employer. Everything else has been via an agency.

Beat me to it, got told about it in a Lecture yesterday and I checked it out last night and theres plenty IT jobs on it!
