    Plug stuck in wall socket...

Hi all, dunno what would be the best place to post this but I have just finished tumble drying some clothes and I went to unplug the socket from the wall after I had finished, only to find that the plug had some how managed to get stuck into the socket... I have used pretty much all the force I can to get this damn thing out of the wall (to the point of blisters on my fingers). So I have now had to cut the cable, Just so I could close the window in the kitchen.

Problem solved, but I still have a plug with a bare wire hanging out of the wall, Does anyone know the best way to get this thing out?

    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks
    Martin

hit the breaker for the socket and unscrew the wall-plate, hit it all with a hammer, and then put it back on the wall, and then re-enable the electric

WD40 isnt conductive IIRC, but its designed to displace water, and not to lubricate. It may help, but it will leave a mess and smell

Streetey has it bang on. I hope you didnt cut the wire without turning it off / breaking the trip switch first

WD40 isnt primarily lube though, its to displace water

There are a hell of a lot better options out there for lubing. You over all people should know that Steve

    stop going off topic gammon-brain

I think speedsters method is the best. Isolate, then proceed to abuse the socket.

Few important things here... if this happened becuase of a bad connection from socket-plug, it could have partly melted a tiny bit on the ends of the brass contacts, more importantly they could get very hot and start a fire, so very good idea to check and make sure...

I just thought his is quite likely since washing machines take quite a bit of power.

Also if you put wd40 or any kind of dielectric on a electrical connection, it can increase the resistance a lot, and cause the above from overheating...

use a screwdriver to leaver the plug out, saves unscrewing the thing, but definatly turn off eleccy at fusebox first.
