    found a rodent

and not the the sort with a ps2 connector on its tail

Not sure what kind of rodent it is, but it has a brown fur with white belly.
Ive found out a few things about it, and ill be busy tomorrow.... untill then I will not be sleeping - since yesterday i was woken up by something touching the middle of my back, which is not a nice feeling when you suspect this. I can quite often hear it and I wouldn't be surprised if it has been here a long while - in which case there is probably more than one.

Its in my room, and im sure it probably entered the house through the roof rather than at ground level. house being the attached type (correct wording?)

But its more than a suspicion, because I've seen it 5 times tonight, two of which involved blinding it with a very bright torch before it ran off.

how long has it been here? well I have just seen it nibbling at the network cable from my room--hall-cupboard-bothers room. We have had plenty of problems along this cable and found my hub no longer works, and our switch recently overheated and died. it is nibbling on the cable right now but i cant do much except watch or throw pens down side of cupboard...

there are two cable holes in my room, one to the loft, one to the hall. I'm going to fill these up first. However I'm not sure if it can get through the holes. it seems to be trying to eat its way through to the hall but haven't seen it go through.

Ive read this thread and was disappointed when I realised there are floorboards. no idea if there are any holes from the floorboards into my room but i HOPE not.

How should I remove it? Poison is out unless it is strong enough to kill it instantly. I don't want the smell of rotting in some hidden corner.
If it can be trapped or caught, I don't really want to clean up splattered mice innards either - but i would be more than happy to kill it outside (it wont be released since it will probably know its way back)

It will be gone by end of today though!!!

did I mention it is fast? damn it is fast, but it makes a LOT of noise when it does.

Also, in the 2 hours since I first saw him, he has always been on the floor. It would be very nice if it cant climb up furnature or cables.

It probably wasn't the same one 5 times.

Quick tip: humane traps are only humane if you check them and release the rodent in a timely manner

Sounds like it's probably a Wood Mouse (does it have fairly large ears and a long tail?)

I'd say go for the humane trap too.. a bit of peanut butter rather than cheese as bait, check it once or twice a day and then let it go outside somewhere... the trauma of capture may put it off coming back in.

Of course, you could kill it but I wouldn't.

We had a mouse, field mouse that was coming up the down tube of the sink drain. Cheeky little bugger he was as well. I called the council in - wasn't long before mouse visit days to my swing bin were well and truly over.

You can make a humane trap very easily.

Get a large baking tray. Get a plastic bowl with a thick rim. Put a piece of mars bar on the tray. Balance the edge of the bowl on a 2p, and put over the mars bar. Leave somewhere where the rabit vampire hamster is likely to investigate.
As it squeezes under the bowl, it will knock the bowl down and trap it in the bowl.

The "borrow a cat" argument can falter when the Seek & Destroy felines decide to invite other small rodent/avian trophies into the house, in various states of distress, death or disassembly.
Fair play to the small mouse they brought in one time, I tried to pick it up to put it outside and the little beast reared up to its full 2" tall and stood up to me!
Very brave, very scared or just very bad eyesight?

With a forum name of silentdeath, I wpouldn't expect a wee mouse to keep you awake in the night

My votes an air rifle, practice with it first in the garden. At night chose a corner of your room, sit and wait, and wait, and wait some more....bang, problem solved (well one of them anyway).

What about using something like this. Much nicer than killing a poor little mouse, plus no bad karma. Which i always think is a bonus.

We had mice, and it took poison and traps to get rid of them all. I think the poison makes them slow, and hence more vulnerable to getting caught in the traps. In the end I trapped about 8 of them and I assume that a few more crawled off to die somewhere. To this day I have no idea where their nest was.
