Food you used to hate, but now love?

They say that your taste buds change as you get older and to be honest its got to be true. In the past year Ive found myself liking more and more foods that I used to hate when I was younger.

For example I used to absolutely DETEST celery, but now I cant get enough of the stuff. In fact Im sitting here now munching my way through a snack pack I brought from Sainsburys and dunking it in sour cream dip!

Also, since being with my boyf Ive had Xmas dinner at his dad's house twice and Ive been told each time I must eat at least a few Brussel Sprouts (apparently its the law!?!) BIG problem because I always considered them to be the food of the devil, yet strangely I can now eat them without wincing and to be honest am not really bothered about them when I find them on my plate!!

I find this all rather odd...

So has anyone else had anything like this??

I dont really mind liking foods that I used to hate, but will be sooooo gutted if all of a sudden I hate food I used to love!!

cockles, mussels and other crusty seafood.

I used to detest these years ago but now I cannot get enough of them.

Same applies to mustard, piccalilli, and branston pickle.

Fried eggs, and eggs in general.

I used to hate the idea of a fried egg, but then last year I was at Download Fesitval, and being..intoxicated shall we say, I went to a burger van but didnt have the cash for a Pork and Stuffing baguette (the *best* food at download, but £5 each!), so opted for a bacon+egg muffin...and i've not looked back since

Since then i've taken to making my own McDonalds bacon/egg McMuffin..an english muffin with a egg (cooked in a pastry cutter to get that perfect round/inch thick look) and bacon on top, and then some ketchup (no cheese to ruin the tastes).

    Yum!

Also on a healthier note, some salads and veg - I used to detest salad and couldn't understand why people ate it..then last year while in switzerland it was common for salad to be eaten with every main lunch/dinner - at work it was included in the price of a menu..so not wanting to throw away food I had paid for I tried it..and again havn't looked back. Rabbit food isn't as bad as I once thought..although it still needs a decent slab of meat to go with it else its not a meal

I read somewhere that an infants taste buds aren't anywhere near developed by the time they get force fed greens, and so all greens taste very bitter to children !

    That may explain a lot.

I never liked greens of any description, until one day in about 1988 I was in Bodelwythan (sp?) N Wales, and was ravenous. I stopped off at a restaurant and had a really nice steak pie with pots, green beans and spring cabbage. Ate the lot and loved it, and I have been a greens fan ever since.

Other stuff I used to hate and now like : Liver, coffee (although I don't drink much), whisky (by the gallon now if I could).

    Things I still can't stand : celery
    Cheers, David

i never used to be a great fan of many vegetables at all. These days i eat quite a lot of veg, still find myself picking at it some times, but i do eat more than before.

I also had a thing against white fish, but i am starting to eat it a bit more these days, although i do still prefer firmer more meat like fish and seafood.

Drinks are another one. I drink whisky (and whiskey) quite a lot, and can tell the differences between them quite easily.

    Olives
    Blue Cheese
    Broccoli
    Cauliflower
    Squid
    Mussels

All detested until a few years ago. Now enjoyed.

Still no change with mushrooms. The texture is just wrong in every way.

My taste totally changed when I gave up smoking. I used to love anything spicy, hot curries, fresh chillies, chilli sauce, all that malarkey and now I dont like it much at all.

I used to hate prawns, mussels, cockles but I realised that it was shellfish of me.

Is there ever a post by clunk that doesn't have a pun/double entendre in it?

I used to really dislike roast potatoes, now can eat them fine. Also chunky chips - used to hate them, but now like them more than the McDonalds skinny things...
